Good afternoon, and happy Wednesday! Our very own Megan Dutta attended the Women in Consumer Technology’s 13th Annual CEDIA Expo Networking Reception and Luncheon in Indianapolis. She gave us a write-up about her time there, so check it out! You can also read about some of the virtual booth tour coverage we have for you. Though the Expo has passed, the coverage and education haven’t stopped!
Our columns this week start off with a piece on liens and holdbacks in AV businesses. One would think that the best way for a company to get back their holdback would be to complete a project, but it isn’t that simple. What contracts and processes could be in the way? I agree with Lee when he says it’s “better to be proactive rather than reactive, so take the time to understand the rules in your area so that you’re prepared if you ever have an issue.”
A second column this week discusses some cultural elements of the audiovisual industry — specifically those that could use some change. Mark Coxon is part of a LinkedIn group that discusses such issues and how we can change them. Why does the drive for systems design focus on incentives, and how can we change this to focus on customer needs? What skills should we look for in hiring practices instead of focusing on experience? Mark says there are a few ways to begin making these changes, so read on to find out how we can begin.
I think that just about covers it! By the way, if you haven’t yet taken a look at our CEDIA Expo 2021 microsite, you can read our how-to piece on how the page works. Anyways, I hope you have a great rest of your week, and I’ll see you next time. Bye!
