Nobody really tells you how difficult it is to buy your own HomeAV products. Imagine my joy, then terror when my roommate’s ~15-year-old Panasonic TV finally kicked dirt. First: Props to Panasonic for making a product (plasma maybe?) that could last that long. Second: I am the only one in our house who knows anything about TVs, so I was tasked with finding a new one. Yet, with all this knowledge swimming in my head, I had no idea what to buy. I’m not exactly hankering for a QLED or OLED, but I’m no laggard, either. Ultimately I decided on a 50-inch Samsung (UHD TV — 6 Series) because it was a good size, pretty picture and it didn’t cost an arm, a leg and the soul of my first-born child.
Instead of giving you that entire anecdote about how I am singlehandedly keeping the HomeAV market alive, I could have just stopped at “buying this crap for yourself is difficult.” But alas, I make the newsletter, I make the rules.
We are packed full of five columns in this issue, coming at you from Gary Kayye (so nice he wrote a column twice), Julian Philips, Scott Tiner and Lee Distad. We also have new product highlights from Sumiko, VESA, Atlantic Technology, Savant and more.
Happy reading, kiddos!
