Borrowing a phrase stolen from ESPN’s perennial college basketball analyst,
Dickie V, the videoconferencing market had a "trifecta" in recent weeks with the interoperability announcements from
Cisco,
Microsoft and
Zoom that they will all play in the same sandbox — total interoperability of video between the three platforms! This may very well be the biggest technology news in the last decade — eclipsing the impact of 4K and the emergence of AV-over-IP as the 2010’s decade leading tech change. Seriously — this can’t be overstated. This is giant.
Here’s a podcast I recently recorded on this very subject — if you want to know why I think this is so monumental.
This is a good time to be in the collaboration and video markets! And, MORE is coming. I am personally aware of some bombshell-worthy announcements coming some BIG manufacturers in the market that will piggyback off this interoperability. BIG TIME announcements that will shake-up ISE in Amsterdam. Speaking of Amsterdam, we are busily prepping or our coverage of the show, tentatively taking about 20 reporters. If you’d like to read, watch or hear our coverage from the show earlier this year,
go here — it includes 1,500+ videos of new products and our not-pay-for-play Best of ISE Awards.
Finally, this issue below is packed with late-year product launches with my personal favorites being that
BrightSign added voice to their digital signage players, the
HoverCam Pilot X (a product I personally LOVE for both K-12 and college classrooms) is shipping and Epson has started shipping its L-10 Series projectors! But, before you read that, read Mark Coxon’s take on the whole video-interoperability news — it’s the first article right below the header!
