This is THE YEAR I have been waiting for — nearly all my professional life.
Why? Well, it’s already clear that we’re going to see more new technology integrated than any other single year in history! How in the world can I make that statement? Well, here’s just a preview of what 2019 will bring (and more to come in our next issue when my Kayye’s Krystal Ball 2019 article debuts):
1. AV-over-IP: This is giant — like way, way bigger than the transition from VGA to HDMI. This is like that times 10. From just January to December, we will see AV integrators transition — in less than 12 months — from most of their AV systems designs being specified as traditional signal routing (HDMI, HDBaseT, etc.) to most of them being AV-over-IP. To put that in perspective, when we went from most systems being routed in VGA/RGBHV to HDMI, it took seven years. So, 12 months is staggering.
2. OLED: This is going prime-time. The wait is over. And, the limitations of 24/7/365 usage are solved. 2019 will also bring a host of new companies making OLED displays. Bring it on!
3. Laser everywhere: Laser projection is on a roll. Just when nearly everyone thought projectors were dead, they have the best sales year, ever, in 2018. And, 2019 will easily beat 2018 in numbers.
Oh, and there’s more. But, you’ll have to wait for the next issue of rAVe ProAV to see all my 2019 Kayye’s Krystal Ball predictions!
Have a great weekend!
