Hot off the presses: Savant is buying the GE Lighting division of GE (yes, GE as in General Electric — the company that Thomas A. Edison founded as Edison General Electric in 1889). It was only two-ish years ago that my parents’ 1970s GE oven finally kicked the can. I wish I could put a picture of it in this intro, but I don’t make the rules — this woman does. GE is an icon of industrial American growth, so it’s odd to think anyone could be buying a division of GE and not the other way around. GE, as a brand, has gone through the roller coaster of life, but its history is a legacy nonetheless. I’m curious to see where Savant takes it for the HomeAV lighting market.
Don’t skim over the product news on your way to the Savant/GE article — you’ll want to read up on the latest updates from Crestron and Lutron (now in a relationship), Samsung (who enters the HomeAV market with a totally new product), Screen Innovations and more. Plus, our weekly column comes from Lee Distad, who writes on the importance of keeping in touch. He says, “This too shall pass (I hope).” Me too, Lee. Me too.
