Happy Monday, AV pros and fans! I hope you had a great weekend, and I’m happy to be back with the latest Rental news, columns, case studies and industry announcements. Read on!

Column one this week takes a look at the live events market in Europe, and the news isn’t the best for this vertical. Bob Snyder’s piece looks at a study by KdG Expert, and some of the highlights found that almost six out of 10 organizations expect their turnover to be lower in 2022 than in 2019. Other research found that 86% of professionals say the sector has shrunk an average of 30% since the pandemic began and 58% of live events visitors will avoid events altogether until the pandemic is over.

On a somewhat lighter note, over-ear headphones could make a comeback in the future in many industries, Rental included. Ever thought about the impact of in-ear headphones like AirPods on your ear health? Many people say they’ve had ear issues from using AirPods and similar earbuds, and Mark Coxon’s daughter was no exception. In this piece, Mark makes a case for the return of over-ear headphones. Do you find over-ear headphones are better for live events and editing? Will you make the switch away from AirPods to return to over-ear products?

That’s it for this week! Don’t miss the two case studies below, and I hope you have a great week filled with all things AV. Bye for now!

— Katie Clark

COLUMNS

+ No Relief for European Events Industry [Bob Snyder]

While some parts of our industry thrive in the pandemic, we should not forget our brothers and sisters in the events business. A year-end 2021 study just released by KdG Expert (Centre of Expertise for the Event Sector) highlights the pain with some research results in Belgium that will sound familiar to many in Europe (and probably elsewhere as well).

+ A Case for Over-ear Headphones [Mark Coxon]

It’s best to use your AirPods for short-term activities that require light and mobile devices. For other tasks or activities like Zoom calls at a desk, online classes and watching videos, it seems extremely advantageous to have a secondary set of over-the-ear wireless headphones that allow your ears to breathe and stay healthy.
