A few months ago, I deleted most social media apps off my phone. This has been both great (for my relationship) and terrible (for some work/volunteer/social groups that I was connected to through social media channels). It would be fantastic if there were say, still an app to monitor just Facebook groups, separate from the Facebook group itself. Then I could still participate in those communities, without the neverending feed of unnecessary information and cat gifs (I actually really love cat gifs, but there's ALWAYS MORE CAT GIFS). Unfortunately, social platforms are not in the business of helping you access one part of their platforms and helping you avoid the
totally addicting parts.
Scott Tiner takes on this issue in his column today, in which he tries to figure out if
social media is a blessing or a curse. Let him know your thoughts in the comments.
Finally, if you're in the U.S., have a happy Thanksgiving. I, for one, am thankful for cat gifs.
