rAVe Rental and Staging — Volume 16, Issue 14
Latest headlines: Sara Abrons with part 2 on her series — watching 2,000 videos from ISE and InfoComm 2022, plus news from Densitron & more

July 25, 2022 | Volume: 16 | Issue: 14

Although I didn’t get to walk the show floor as much as I wanted at this past InfoComm, I, fortunately, had plenty of time for that at ISE 2022. During my video shooting duties at the latter, I got to spend some time in the rental and audio sections at the Fira. I bring this up because the second part of Sara Abrons’ series about both shows is now on our site. In part 2, she writes about more of the trends she got to see as our head video titler for both shows (part 1 is here) — and some of the ones I got to see as I walked this part of the show floor. Did you know that a big trend at both shows was IP-based control for rental/staging devices? So, if you’re looking for solutions for, say, DMX network control, there is plenty of that on the market. Check out her article to learn about the other trends taking over AV.

Nathan Haynes writes about another trend — the standards (or lack thereof) in the AV industry. While there are plenty of proprietary options, he argues that developing some set rules and measurements could help our industry in the long run. What do you think?

Enjoy!

COLUMNS

+ Part 2: What I Learned About the Industry by (Not Attending ISE or InfoComm, But) Watching 2,000 Product Videos [Sara Abrons]

This is part 2 of an article about all the things I noticed from ISE and InfoComm this year, two shows to which I didn’t go, but as the editor in charge of video titling for rAVe [PUBS] for both, I did watch pretty much every video the team shot from both show floors, which was about 2,000 videos.

+ Looking to the Future: Standardization May Offer More Wins Than Losses [Nathan Haynes]

Having a lowest-common-denominator interface standard, IO standard or protocol standard would be a benefit to all. Profits and efficiency would go up, everyone in the chain would benefit and ultimately the knock-on benefits from environmental impacts to staff deployment ease … Well, let’s just say I can hear a collective sigh of relief. We will all win more than we lose.
