I think we can all agree that AI really blew up in the past year. We see it everywhere. In our cameras and with weird deepfake videos of celebrities singing songs that aren’t theirs (or is that exclusively my Twitter feed) and, particularly, with ChatGPT. Scott Tiner writes about how bullish he was about all that AI offered last year. It still offers a lot … it just has a long way to go. Read more here!

COLUMNS

+ AI: A Year Later [Scott Tiner]

In late 2022, ChatGPT was released and the expectations were sky high. The technology was amazing. You could ask it to write a paper on Shakespeare in the language of a pirate and ten seconds later it pops out. You could ask it to program a Crestron control system with an Epson projector, and again, 10 seconds later you have a program. I was very bullish on what AI would provide us, and while I still am, I have a more nuanced understanding of the technology after a year of using it and learning about it.

+ Optimism for Enterprise AV as Companies Seek to Strengthen Office Value [Scarlett Woodford]

A new report from Futuresource Consulting shows that corporate AV budgets were squeezed during 2022 and into 2023, and the situation was exacerbated by chipset price hikes and supply chain disruption. Coupled with widespread redundancies across the tech sector, tough market conditions characterised the first half of 2023. However, the specialist research firm has identified the beginnings of an upsurge, with volume and value growth forecasts across a range of collaboration devices.
