Hello, rental folk! Happy almost weekend! I come bearing gifts in the form of all the product news you could ever want!

First of all, let’s take a moment to think about all this pivoting we’ve been talking about in the industry. For the rental market, and most others, that means virtual event city. You and I both know rAVe is no stranger to virtual events — hello, LAVNCH — but other organizations have made this jump too. Does it always work? No. Equipment doesn’t always work when you’re trying to broadcast from the house, Wi-Fi goes down, Bluetooth stops working, etc. Scott Tiner makes an interesting point in his column I’ve included for this newsletter: What if we made home studios a priority? Let me take that a step further and ask what if there were more options for studios we could set up to be mobile?

For rental, I could see plenty of scenarios where that could work, or perhaps even a hybrid half in-person, half-broadcast performance similar to this one the UNC Department of Music made work with the help of Visionary’s PacketAV Matrix Series.

As it has been for most of this hell year, things are difficult right now, so I’ve enjoyed pointing out companies/manufacturers that are making interesting configurations work right now.

Enjoy your weekend!

+ Will There Be a Rise of Home Studios? [Scott Tiner]

We are all starting to learn that the workplace of the future has changed, and one way will be the concept of work-from-anywhere. Workplaces will take on the HyFlex model that educational institutions have become used to. I have written about HyFlex in previous blogs, but in a nutshell, it defines an environment where it does not matter where participants are. If we follow the belief that this model will work, it provides a situation where videoconferencing is ubiquitous in meetings. This finally brings me to one of the opportunities this presents: the home studio.
