Scott Tiner is right on the money this week, #AVtweeps. What a long, strange trip it has been — for everyone working in schools and universities. In his column this week, Scott takes us through the past 17 months of questions and — alright, I’ll say it — “The New Normal.” But for real, there isn’t a normal for all of you in education. There was no blueprint for COVID-19. No existing how-to for setting up HyFlex classrooms (I guess I’m using all the buzzwords today!). While Scott goes through the past year’s struggles, he also discusses the triumphs and opportunities for integrators and more.
In the second column of our issue, Gary Kayye takes all of us on a tour of Sony’s AV Tech Expo in New York City. Want a virtual tour of the event? Want to see some of the brand-new things Sony has been working on lately? Look no further!
Finally — catch the news we broke about Diversified’s acquisition of HB Communications, plus new product news from Audinate, Blackmagic Design, Sharp/NEC and more.

Over the summer of 2020, they worked to make sure their faculty and students were prepared to learn and teach in a variety of new and different ways. Come the fall, different colleges took different approaches to the pandemic, some being fully remote while others were fully in-person. As the school year ended in 2021, people were starting to feel a sense of relief. The fall of 2021 would be back to normal!
I took my third business trip post-vaccination today and headed up to New York City for Sony’s first-ever AV Tech Expo at its 25 Madison Ave. location. I’d say it was worth the masking, walking and mouth-sweating (inside the mask).
