Something we can probably all agree on about digital signage is that it’s gotten incredibly smart. Particularly in retail, digital signage can tell you so much more about the people who shop at a certain store or buy a certain product. Jeff Hastings writes a little about how this “context-sensitive signage” is transforming interactivity in retail. Want to know how many times a product was picked up? Are they picked up and put back while a particular segment of a video is playing on a kiosk? These are things you can know now.
For our other column, John Borns writes about the idea of “good enough.” At this point, we all know that “good enough” isn’t going to create an AV solution that lasts. While there are definitely times when something is good enough compared to costlier options, but John says good enough doesn’t always cut it when upgrading projection screens in installed systems. In an install, things need to be upgraded all the time! But if you’re using projection for an install and update the projector, do you automatically need to upgrade the screen too? Read to find out.
Enjoy! Also, make sure you check out the Nanov solar-powered E-Paper display in product news. This is something we saw and InfoComm 2022 — it’s awesome.
