Dare I say, the market is taking a turn for the better?

We’ve made it through 2020, the year of (a lot of things but also) everyone wondering if we’d ever be OK with touch screens again. But it was also the year that kiosk applications and temperature-taking solutions were game-changers for hospitals and other health applications.

Well, now we’re at the end of 2021 and we’re facing a turning point for pro displays. While we saw that value dwindle a bit during COVID, it’s picking up as companies and organizations all over are preparing the move back to the office. That means new technology. That means new displays and digital signage.

As we move into 2022, I hope we keep this people-first mentality that we’ve seemed to develop during the pandemic. I’ve said it once and I’ll probably say it a million times more, but the people are the heart of AV industry. Let’s remember that as we reflect on the market, the industry and ourselves over the last bit of 2021.

By the way, happy holidays!

P.S. Notice I included a piece on what we can learn from the exercise industry. What do you think? Is that industry creative with how it gathers information about its customers and uses it to motivate them? Is this something we could eventually utilize in digital signage?

P.P.S. Catch this LAVNCH & LEARN Wednesday for more conversations about the state of the market!

COLUMNS

+ Spirited Turnaround for Pro Displays as Forecasts Show 27% Market Expansion [Matthew Rubin]

Companies operating in the professional displays market experienced a bleak 2020, with value dropping by more than 15% year-on-year. Yet 2021 has seen a turnaround, and the market is on course to end on a high. That’s according to a new competitive review report from market research firm Futuresource Consulting, which forecasts an increase of more than 27%, finishing the year at a global value of $36 billion.

+ Learning From the Exercise Industry [Scott Tiner]

As we begin to realize that COVID-19 will become endemic, perhaps becoming less dangerous, but never fully going away, we also should realize that these types of choices will continue to need to be made. In October I wrote about how InfoComm, and other trade shows, should embrace those people who make the choice not to attend. This month I have been thinking about other business opportunities that the AV industry could find in this ongoing environment.
