Hello to my DS #AVtweeps! I hope everyone is doing well this week! I want to keep this short and sweet, but I hope you check out Sara Abrons’ article this time around, all about the struggles when it came to discovering/developing the blue LED. Would you believe it if I said that red and green didn’t present as many problems? Read to find out why the blue LED proved to be so elusive and difficult to make work.
Finally, Megan A. Dutta is very Th[AV]nkful this holiday season for all the #AVtweeps out there. It also makes me happy to think of all the new friends I have made this past year. But what are the rest of you #AVtweeps thankful for? She wrote this piece detailing just that.
Have a great rest of the week, everybody, and to our U.S. readers, Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate! I’m very th[AV]nkful for all of you who read my silly little words. Thank you again for being such a wonderful and integral part of rAVe.
From early on, scientists were excited about the possibility of LEDs. They are much more energy-efficient and long-lasting and emit significantly less heat than previous lighting technology. Twenty to thirty percent of all electrical energy consumed is used for lighting, so efficiency improvements are significant, both economically and environmentally. Since the blue LED problem was solved, the quality, brightness, efficiency of LEDs have increased dramatically, while the size of the chips and production costs have fallen.
Your value to an employer is your experience, contacts (not just random LinkedIn connections) that you can rely on for support and your effectiveness with your responsibilities (meeting or exceeding expectations). There are three types of roles in a company, either you cost money, save money or make money for your company. Focus on the last two and you will probably last longer in your company, presuming the company supports your efforts as well.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., I sat down to reflect on what I’m thankful for this year. And, as always, it’s #AVTweeps. It made my heart so incredibly happy to see so many of my AV friends at InfoComm this year in Orlando. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve been using technology to keep in touch, but that was nothing compared to being able to hang out in person — whether it was catching up at events like the Almo 75th Anniversary Celebration at Seaworld or talking tech on the show floor. Side note: you can see all of rAVe’s images from InfoComm 2021 here.
