Hi #AVtweeps! I feel like we haven’t spoken in quite some time — how have you been?

This action-packed issue has product news from Waves Audio, NETGEAR, Ocean Matrix, Leyard and Planar, Optoma, Marshall Electronics, rp Visual Solutions and more! Everything from projectors to projection screens to AV-over-IP can be found below.

Also, be sure to check out the two columns including in this issue from Chris Evans and Scott Tiner.

Chris discusses the ability for smartphones to find a place in professional video production. I was producing an event earlier this month; we didn’t use iPhones for any of our eye-mag feeds but we used them for literally everything else: content production across video and photo. It’s literally so easy, especially because we needed good picture quality but also needed something brilliantly fast to turn the content around on time. My team’s deadline for a two-minute video was two hours — and it was a live show so there was definitely no slide 🙂

Enjoy!

COLUMNS

+ Is There a Place for Smartphones in Professional Video Production? [Chris Evans]

Why actively choose to use a smartphone? In the simplest terms, mobile acquisition offers three fundamental advantages: these devices are compact, discrete and connected. The compact nature of a smartphone is immediately obvious and is precisely the reason they have quickly eroded the consumer point and shoot fixed lens camera market to become the most convenient everyday acquisition device.

+ Social Media – Blessing or Curse? [Scott Tiner]

Like so many industries, the AV industry has a robust and valuable community in the social media sphere. Many of us have dozens, if not hundreds of contacts and “friends” that we know only via social media. While we have opportunities to catch up and meet during industry events, including the always popular tweet-ups, the majority of our interaction is virtual.
