~And now for a love letter to my UCC #AVtweeps~

I’m always grateful to my job when I get to go to a trade show. That’s how I learn our industry best. Not from studying specs or capabilities online, but from getting to watch people demo and use products in real life. I like getting to ask questions about how things work and I like getting to meet all of you! That was very much the theme of this year’s InfoComm — getting back into the groove and digging into the reasons that make our industry so great.

As you can see, we are in no shortage of news this time — classic InfoComm, am I right? The best thing about this newsletter issue is that I got to see many of these products and solutions in real life! Take DTEN’s new Inclusiview feature for the DTEN ME Pro. I got to walk up to it and watch the camera pick me up in real time — no matter how I turned my head, ducked down or stepped up on my tiptoes.

Hybrid — sorry to everyone for using that buzzword AGAIN — or flexible or whatever-the-heck-you-want-to call-it is here to stay. Booth after booth at InfoComm 2022 talked about its options for making meetings easy and equitable for everyone who cared to join them. I don’t know if we’re quite there yet or if we’ll ever truly achieve “meeting equity,” but I’m excited to see the future technology that will make it pretty darn close. What an exciting time to be a part of AV.

That’s it from me. Y’all stay cool this weekend — it’s hot out there.

P.S. If you’re interested, like me, in getting to see all these products and functionalities demoed in real life — check out our microsite for all 1,100 product videos from the InfoComm 2022 show floor! Enjoy!

P.P.S You can also check out our rePLAY InfoComm 2022 virtual event on demand if you’d like even more InfoComm coverage, commentary and more.

COLUMNS

+ No More ‘I Am Sharing My Screen’ [Bob Snyder]

Switchboard lets users videoconference and work within multiple web-based applications — from Google Docs and Figma, to Trello and Jira — in a single virtual room. Instead of toggling between tabs and apps or having to share a screen, users can bring all of their materials to shared space.

+ Keep Your Customers and Your Teams Connected: Turn on Your Camera [Murphy Daley]

Holding a meeting and not taking advantage of what our faces have to share with other people is undermining the message. Teamwork and cooperation are hard enough, I don’t want to leave anything that will assist out of the equation. Even on a bad hair day, I’ll show my face to my team.
