rAVe UCC — Volume 13, Issue 10
Latest headlines: Mark Coxon on analog and digital whiteboards, Hope Roth on integrators, ransomware and what to do if you’ve been hacked

May 23, 2022 | Volume: 13 | Issue: 10

InfoComm 2022 is on the horizon, #AVtweeps! Are you looking forward to the show? Will you be there in person? I’m so looking forward to a show where I get to see everyone face to face. It was lovely getting to spend time with old friends and new at ISE 2022 and I just know InfoComm will be just as special. (There is still time to register with the code “RAVE” for a free show pass!)

If you aren’t attending the show, know you can count on us to provide you with the best coverage we possibly can. We’ll have a team on-site and some at home to make sure our news is posted and ready for you all promptly. Plus, we will be sure to get you all the information about rePLAY InfoComm 2022 — coming soon. We also have a new assistant editor joining the rAVe team this week; I’m sure you’ll hear from her soon as show prep continues. But until then, go ahead, reach out and give Gianna Holiday a warm welcome!

For columns this time, Mark Coxon outlines ways in which we can marry our ideal whiteboarding ideas with both analog and digital — we may be in AV, but we must recognize there are impressive qualities to both!

Also, Hope Roth gives us the latest installment in her series about integrators and dealing with the worst — aka ransomware. If you read her column last time, this will be a lesson in next steps and how to prevent a company from being in such a spot later.

Enjoy!

COLUMNS

+ Up Your Whiteboard Game by Combining the Best of Analog and Digital [Mark Coxon]

One of the areas of work that suffered during the last couple years is collaboration, and there are a multitude of hardware and software solutions that have been introduced to address this problem. Cloud-based conferencing platforms like Zoom and Teams have whiteboard software options, platforms like T1V and Alleo allow people to create persistent workspaces, and there are now hundreds of interactive short-throw projectors and interactive whiteboard displays on the market. But even with all of these options, some people still love their analog whiteboards — in fact, a lot of people do.

+ Part 2: A Fictional Integrator, a Cyberattack and Next Steps [Hope Roth]

As ransomware attacks have become more and more common, insurance coverage for them has become increasingly more expensive. Cyberattack coverage now requires its own separate insurance, usually referred to as cybersecurity insurance or cyber liability insurance. This insurance costs a pretty penny, so some businesses elect for cheaper plans. Unfortunately, these plans have limited coverage. Our fictional integrator learned the hard way that he’d been paying for an insurance plan that wasn’t going to cover anything.
