As AV rental/staging experts, do you have a response when a speaker (even in a moderate sized room) says he doesn’t need a microphone? That he has a loud voice? What do you say? Plenty of speakers pride themselves on their powers of (vocal) projection. But that speaker is probably not be taking into consideration the potential range of hearing abilities of audience members.
Technology has allowed us to do many amazing things, not the least of which is allowing more people to hear and see and access information that they may not previously have been able to. That includes people whose hearing capabilities might not be perfect. But we can only reach them if we actually use the technology that’s been made available — and sometimes that means telling a confident speaker that he really should use a mic, no matter how loud his voice is.
