Latest headlines: Gary Kayye’s 2019 Krystal Ball predictions articles is out, Scott Tiner on calculating ROI in higher education, plus news from Biamp, Vivitek, Sony, ClearOne, Crestron and more

February 20, 2019 | Volume: 12 | Issue: 4

Gary’s favorite article to write every year is his Kayye’s Krystal Ball article, where he makes predictions about technology for the upcoming year, but also returns to his predictions from the previous year to see where he was right… and also wrong. Today we’re publishing his 2019 version, which you can see linked below. If you prefer to “watch” his predictions, he also did a webinar a few weeks ago for Almo ProAV, which you can see here (registration is required but it’s free to watch).

Scott Tiner also talks about how he goes about calculating the ROI of technology they put in at the college he works at, Bates College in Maine, which can be a challenge within higher education.

Enjoy the issue!

COLUMNS

+ Welcome to Gary Kayye’s 2019 Krystal Ball – What Will Happen in AV in 2019 [Gary Kayye]

I love writing this annual predictions article. If you’re a regular reader, you already know this but for those that don’t, my Kayye’s Krystal Ball piece is an annual article where I not only tell you what I think is going to happen in the AV market for the upcoming year, but I also go back and review the previous year’s predictions. Sort of a scorecard of accuracy, if you will. And, 2019 is going to be an exciting year with A LOT of changes in the AV market so I hope you’ll read them all.

+ ROI in Higher Education [Scott Tiner]

With this knowledge of closures and mergers, smart leaders are thinking about budgets, and what provides value. Many IT and AV organizations have budgets that are being hit by this closer look. Let’s face it, in both equipment and people, we spend a lot of money. This means that we need to begin to pay attention to what we are doing and how it is providing value. This may mean giving serious thought into what we install, and being honest with ourselves and our administration.
