Latest headlines: Steph Beckett with a summary of the latest InfoBrief from IDC and Poly and Gary Kayye with rAVe’s top 10 stories of 2020

rAVe Managing Editor Steph Beckett wrote a really great story this week; it recaps an important new study put out by International Data Corporation (IDC) and Poly just a couple of days ago, all about hybrid/remote work and this reality we’ve all been living, generally, since March. In the report, an IDC InfoBrief sponsored by Poly, we get some new key findings around the technologies and workplace trends fueling work in the COVID-19 era. I love that the report covered three geographical areas — North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific — and not just the United States. I know I sometimes live and work in a bubble, so any perspective from outside my bubble is much appreciated.
To add onto Steph’s takeaway that many offices plan to stay remote or do “hybrid” for the foreseeable future, here’s what Poly had to say in its own blog summary on the report:
“IDC report finds that even after a return to the office option is available, a significant number of companies around the world plan to maintain workforces that are remote or hybrid by design rather than circumstance. This research underlines the essential role that purpose-built hardware will assume in facilitating this shift to the future of work.”
And: “40% [of organizations] stated that they will redesign their work models to support a hybrid workforce including physical workspace, tools, and endpoints.”
Take note, #AVtweeps: Working from home will endure, particularly in a hybrid model. That’ll mean employees and organizations will need support in the physical workspace and with intangible things too. Technology transformation is going to take time. But if you can get in early and figure out ways to “crack the code,” I feel confident you’ll find success.
So go forth, and go for it. You all in UCC are in the best position to lead this charge. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
P.S. Here’s one actual, tangible thing you can do to take this information and put it into action: Sign up to attend LAVNCH WEEK 3.0. It’s going to cover topics like this, plus a whole lot more, with thought leadership, industry education and new product info. Get on the list here.
In the weird/unpredictable/unprecedented (did I get all the cliches in there?) times we are in, a question has stayed at the forefront of all of our minds: What the heck are our jobs going to make us do when COVID-19 is no longer a thing? For the past (almost) year, we’ve said “new normal” this and “new normal” that. But who can actually predict what any future norm will look like? Enter IDC with a few research analysts Poly invited to find which technologies and workplace trends have redefined ways of working in the COVID-era and beyond — in three key geographical areas.
It’s that time of year again where everyone makes ridiculous resolutions they probably won’t keep. Instead of doing all that this year, I wanted to make a resolution that would be achievable — no matter how hard it seems. So, I am studying to get my CTS! To keep me accountable, my co-workers at rAVe encouraged me to make a corresponding podcast. Hence, Study With Steph was born.
