Are you ready for 4K? 2019 will see a wave of 4K products — in fact, nearly everything that’s video-capable in the school is not 4K capable. And, the native 4K projectors are about to arrive, too. Are you ready?
Unlike the upgrades from VGA to HDMI or from 720p to 1080p, upgrading to 4K will mean changing nearly all your signal cabling, switching and distribution infrastructure out. Just because that HDMI cable in that table-top box does 1080p well doesn’t mean it will do 4K at all. In fact, likely it won’t. But this classroom upgrade shouldn’t be taken lightly. There are a host of bad 4K products out there — remember, there is no 4K quality police, unfortunately.
So what should you do? Well, the simple answer is do your own testing — of everything. But, it’s more complicated than that. Testing isn’t a simple process, as you know. However, we’ve done a lot of that for you. For the past two years, we’ve been covering the 4K products launched into the AV market better than anyone. If you see a 4K product you might want to use, use our SEARCH at www.rAVePubs.com and look at the actual specs to see compatibility (and pay attention to color bit depth — as you need it all to match).
Here’s an awesome, and free, educational resource I love — it’s sort of an everything you need to know about 4K, technically, from Extron.
And, here’s a video of my own 4K Keynote 4K – No Myths, No Exaggerations, Just the Facts — that you can watch for free (and earn CTS credit for doing so!
