February 22, 2022 | Volume: 11 | Issue: 4

Hello and happy Tuesday, AV pros and fans! Did you have a good weekend? I certainly did. Oh, and I can’t wait for LAVNCH WEEK 5 that’s coming up in a few weeks — don’t forget to register!

Our first column today was written by the one and only Gary Kayye. It looks into the reality of what being truly hybrid means — is there growth in the term “hybrid?” Gary thinks so. We’re all used to livestreaming HOW services and other events these days, but what is the difference between a Facebook event that is being streamed and a truly hybrid service or experience? See what Gary has to say here, and let me know what you think!

Our second column asks you to examine how much you know about the AV industry. What opportunities are available for you to continue growing in the House of Worship field or in AV knowledge? Murphy Daley says it’s a new year, and that means new opportunities abound. How versed are you in the cloud, livestreaming or in online collaboration? What can you learn to help make your HOW clients happier? Get some advice in this one.

That’s it from me, but I hope you have a great rest of the week filled with all things AV. See you next time!

— Katie Clark

COLUMNS

+ How Hybrid Are You? [Gary Kayye]

What meeting planners learned is what the live events industry had been telling them for over a decade: you should offer a hybrid component to every live event for those people who just can’t attend. But, streaming an event’s keynote, a few of the educations sessions or a House of Worship service isn’t hybrid — that’s just, well, streaming.

+ Growing the Skillset: Review of the Landscape for AV Educational Opportunities [Murphy Daley]

Now that the new-year smell is wearing off of 2022 and everyone is getting into their routines, this seems like a good time to set up plans for personal upgrades. For the AV professional, there are a number of options for sharpening skills and gaining new ones.
