rAVe HOW [House of Worship] — Volume 11, Issue 2
Latest headlines: Bob Snyder on HaLow Wi-Fi, Helen Matthews on the system camera market and news from Pliant Technologies, Biamp and Roland.

It’s Friday, AVtweeps! We’re expecting some possible snow over here in North Carolina for the third weekend in a row — somewhat unusual for us! Let’s kick off the weekend with a couple of columns.

Firstly, meet HaLow, what Bob Snyder calls the “steroids version of Wi-Fi.” HaLow is apparently a stronger Wi-Fi signal that runs further and consumes less energy. As church tech is updated and becomes more modern, how can facilities benefit from Wi-Fi that supports better connections and multivendor interoperability? Is HaLow the next big thing for house of worship connections?

Next up, live events could be the key to improving the system camera market. When church services moved online, livestreaming a service required updated equipment. Helen Matthews wrote, “Because of this, producers of live feeds now consider system cameras and PTZ cameras to be complementary video acquisition devices that can be used in tandem to increase content coverage and enhance the consumer’s experience….” Check out this piece from Futuresource!

That’s all for now, AV pros and fans. I hope you have a great weekend, and I’ll see you next time. Bye!

COLUMNS

+ Say HaLow: There’s A Tougher Wi-Fi with Less Power, More Range [Bob Snyder]

Wi-Fi has been the dread of most professional installers who would usually rather lose a finger than predicate any of their solutions on wireless. If Wi-Fi 6 from CES 2022 doesn’t convince the wire-pullers, then Wi-Fi Alliance has another runner to put in the race.

+ How Live Events Are Set To Revive the System Camera Market [Helen Matthews]

This forced migration to remote production throughout FY20 resulted in a paradigm shift in attitudes toward certain technologies, including professional pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, which in turn caused some concern that the recovery of the system camera market may be inhibited by the adoption of alternative technologies.
