rAVe UCC — Volume 11, Issue 17
Latest headlines: Gary Kayye on how UCC is doing .EDU (not very well), plus news from Panasonic, Yamaha, BrightSign, Magewell and more

We have had the microscope on UCC this week, folks!

5A4R

Mostly in the EMEA region this time, though. Why, you ask? Good question, since we are an American publication. But I’ll tell you. We hosted LAVNCH EMEA this week; it was fantastic. The presenters all had really great insights about the state of the industry, and our sponsors provided cool educational content. If you weren’t able to attend (yes, it was early in the morning because we were on Europe time!), you can read our wrap-up articles below — and we are uploading the day’s videos — you can find them here.

In this edition of UCC, you can find a column from the one and only Gary Kayye about how the education sector could really benefit from some UCC love right now from manufacturers. Particularly right now!

Also — the latest in product news from the past few days. Yamaha entering the great ceiling tile mic battle, and Panasonic has unveiled the PressIT (to compete with a few other BYOM options).

Enjoy the reading, and I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

— Steph Beckett

COLUMNS

+ UCC Does .EDU — Terribly! [Gary Kayye]

Way, way, before COVID-19, UCC saw explosive growth. Because of it, “collaboration” was not only the buzzword of InfoComm 2019 but also completely dominated ISE 2020 — the last great AV event of 2020. But, UCC doesn’t mean meeting room or huddle room, by the way. If you read the spec sheets of the plethora of “collaboration” products from companies like Logitech, Poly, QSC, Biamp, Sennheiser, Shure and the half-dozen or so display companies targeting UCC with collaboration boards and projectors, you’d think that the term was exclusively interchangeable only with a meeting space/room. Enter COVID.
