Latest headlines: Is Barco buying Uniliumin? Plus news from Christie, Vixi, B-Tech, ScreenBeam and more

September 12, 2019 | Volume: 11 | Issue: 17

Although the fall is generally a BUSY, BUSY, BUSY time for the AV community, usually, it’s a slow time for new AV gear news. But this fall is actually shaping up to be one that’s full of new product launches — and this issue of rAVe DS is an example of that. There’s a plethora of new digital signage related products as well as some periphery products. too.

One development in the industry I’d like to draw your attention to is Barco’s investment in Unilumin. That matters and I wrote a column on my thoughts on what’s likely to happen there. It certainly has a future impact on the DS market as both Barco and Unilumin are major players there.

But, of all the new products launched below, my favorite is the new NEC UN552VS display. It’s simple perfection. Check it out!

Have a great day and we will see you LIVE at the NY Digital Signage Week!

+ ProAV: Business Agility as a Competitive Advantage [Anthony Coppedge]

Change isn't new to the ProAV industry, but the rate of change may be the downfall for even the largest firms. After all, the innovations, inventions and the integration with AV over IT have made for a robust industry with $186 billion in revenue for 2018 and projections calling for $229 billion by 2023 (source: AV Industry Outlook). It's that in 2019, the rate of change is going to put more than a few manufacturers and systems integrators out of business before 2023 arrives. But, there's hope for ProAV: business agility as a competitive advantage.

+ Is Barco Buying Unilumin? I Believe It’s Just a Matter of Time  [Gary Kayye]

Barco just announced a strategic collaboration with Unilumin, a listed Chinese company that’s an LED manufacturer. Barco says it's engaged in a wide-ranging partnership with Unilumin to secure a supply of LED display components, which allows broader penetration in its core markets with differentiated Barco LED visualization hardware and software solutions. But, isn’t it logical they will just buy them, eventually?
