Welcome to what has become one of my favorite newsletters of all time. I’ve been writing these newsletters for over 20 years if you include my original AV publication, K-News. The unified communications space is really interesting to me because it seems to be the great simplifier of AV systems. And, It’s bringing a whole new client into the A/V industry. They are starting small with UCC spaces and huddle spaces and discovering a whole new set of technologies and products that are making their rooms better. Just the other day I was talking to a designer from Accenture who told me that, through the process of specifying a whole bunch of huddle rooms, he discovered beamforming microphone technology. He plans to add this to every trading and meeting room in the facility. I met someone from the University of California at Los Angeles at a recent event who, through the process of buying Zoom Rooms, discovered that there were a plethora of new interactive projector options that could be integrated into their classrooms. UCC is going to bring a lot of new customers into the market who will eventually integrate more and more AV technology.
Speaking of Zoom, as I am sure you are aware, they went public last week. So far, they are the most successful IPO in AV industry history. It will be fun to watch their stock and a big shout-out and congratulations to Zoom founder, Eric Yuan. If you’d like to follow their stock, go here.
