Today, POLYCOM changed videoconferencing forever. | | | | Oct. 9, 2012 | Episode 7: Vaddio Adds Free Advanced Replacement Program | Sure, everyone's got warranties for all their gear- and as most manufacturers would say, you don't need warranties as their gear never breaks. But, in case it does, everyone needs at least a two year warranty. But, Vaddio one-upped their competition by offering a one-year, free Advanced Replacement program. We talk about this on today's program. | | | | Oct. 10, 2012 | Episode 8: Visix's Mini Form Factor Media Player – Terrible Name, Great Box | Visix's latest is in the form of a solid state media player with a 60GB drive. It's called HD Flow (www.hdflow.com) and it allows you to send HDMI signals (up to 1080p) wirelessly over an 802.11n network up to 40 meters. But, it doesn't just do one-to-one HDMI; they even have a version that takes two HDMI inputs (and even one component video input) and sends them to up to three different HDTVs or HD capable displays. | | | | Oct. 17, 2012 | Episode 12: How to Hire Creative Content Designers | Most graphic design majors in college are relegated to designing websites when they graduate. But you've got the ultimate job for them when they graduate, and you can sell their services profitably! Use their skill set to help you design creative content for digital signage systems and more. The future of the AV industry is no longer in selling hardware, it's in selling services and content. | | | | Oct. 18, 2012 | Episode 13: AV and IT Work Perfectly Together: I Agree With AVDawn | The convergence of AV and IT has been a huge point of contention in the AV industry, but perhaps you should be thinking about the relationship between the two industries as more of a partnership.

So I ask this simple question: who's buying SMART? | | | | Oct. 25, 2012 | Episode 16: Christie's Control Room Tour is for EVERYONE | Control rooms are not just for super high-end earthquake monitoring and city traffic surveillance anymore. Check out the details of Christie's control room tour now. | | | | Oct. 26, 2012 | Episode 17: Polycom's Bold and Market-Leading Videoconferencing Move | Earlier this month, Polycom held a big, big press conference. They've changed the face of videoconferencing forever by launching not only more affordable solutions, but also cloud-based solutions that are compatible with 3rd party video apps like Facebook, Google Talk and Skype.
So, what does this all meant to the integrator? Well, listen as I talk to Polycom's John Antanaitis, Craig Richardson and Randy Riebe and they explain it all. And, pay special attention to the last part of the interview as it gives you a glimpse into how an AV dealer can make a lot of money in videoconferencing in the future with CloudAXIS. | | | | Oct. 30, 2012 | Episode 18: Philips Debuts hue | Philips is famous for launching amazing products, but having an inability sell them. For all you REGULAR listeners of rAVe Radio out there, hopefully you enjoyed another opinion-packed issue! For those of you NEW to rAVe, you just read how we are — we are 100 percent opinionated. We not only report the news and new product stories of the ProAV and HomeAV industries, but we stuff the articles full of our opinions. That may include (but is not limited to) whether or not the product is even worth looking at, challenging the manufacturers on their specifications, calling a marketing-spec bluff and suggesting ways integrators market their products better. But, one thing is for sure, we are NOT a trade publication that gets paid for running editorial or product stories. Traditional trade publications get paid to run product stories — that's why you see what you see in most of the pubs out there. We are different: we run what we want to run and NO ONE is going to pay us to write or say anything good (or bad). To send me feedback, don't reply to this newsletter. Instead, write directly to me at gary@ravepubs.com or for editorial ideas, Editor-in-Chief Sara Abrons at sara@ravepubs.com. If you are interested in being on a podcast or have questions specifically about rAVe Radio, contact our rAVe Radio producer NC Nwoko at nc@ravepubs.com A little about me: I graduated from Journalism School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where I am adjunct faculty). I've been in the AV industry since 1987 where I started with Extron and eventually moved to AMX. So, I guess I am an industry veteran (although I don't think I am that old). I have been an opinionated columnist for a number of industry publications and in the late 1990s I started the widely read KNews eNewsletter (the first in the AV market) and also created the model for and was co-founder of AV Avenue, which is now known as InfoComm IQ. rAVe [Publications] has been around since 2003, when we launched our original newsletter, rAVe ProAV Edition. Everything we publish is Opt-in — we spam NO ONE! rAVe ProAV Edition is our flagship ePublication with what we believe is a reach of virtually everyone in the ProAV market. rAVe HomeAV Edition, co-published with CEDIA and launched in February 2004, is, by far, the largest ePub in the HomeAV market. We added rAVe Rental [and Staging] in November 2007, rAVe ED [Education] in May 2008 and then rAVe DS [Digital Signage] in January 2009. We added rAVe GreenAV in August 2010 and rAVe HOW [House of Worship] in July 2012. rAVe Radio, our podcasts, were launched in 2012. You can subscribe to any of those publication or see ALL our archives by going to: https://www.ravepubs.com To read more about my background, our team and what we do, go to https://www.ravepubs.com
