Well, as of Friday afternoon, we knew the fate of the Midwest (purchased by AVI Systems). Now we know what is to become of most of the Southeast Region of the former MCSi as well as much of the Northwest. You can read previous news at http://www.kayyerave.com Sans Florida, which I fully expect to be part of AVI domain (the AVI based in Tampa, Florida, that is) any day now, the Southeast region of MCSi (formerly Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia) is now re-emerging … well de ja vous – remember Technical Industries? Well, change the name to Technical Innovation and you almost have 'Technical Industries 2004,' led, for one, by Sonny Davis, a co-founder of the original Technical Industries, along with Mike Landrum and Kevin Powers, who now make up the leadership team of Technical Innovation, LLC, a new Georgia-based ProAV integration firm made up of the former MCSi operations in the above mentioned states. In the Northwest region of the US, Paul Peck, former ProAV industry guru and former president of Proline is back with a new company and now with the MCSi assets of the Northern California and Washington state operations. And, with Mike Clark, Mike Richardson and Joel Ballejo as partners, this new company, dubbed Avidex, will take over much of the assets of the West Coast operation of MCSi. On a personal note, both Sonny Davis and Mike Clark are guys I have known personally for years and worked with in some capacity at one time or another. Both are brilliant managers of relationships, and visionaries of the ProAV market. Although I don't personally know Mike Landrum, Mike Richardson, Kevin Powers or Paul Peck, I certainly know them professionally and their reputations speak for themselves. So, although these deals were, no doubt, pieced together in the last 72-hours or so, these will be companies that will stand the test of time and will make an impact. As Sonny Davis indicates in his comments below, the market hasn't had a national ProAV integration firm be truly successful, but on a regional level these two companies – along with the new AVI Systems group that acquired the MCSi Midwest Region and a guy I think the world of, Mike Vergauwen, will be around for years to come. — Gary Kayye, CTS And now, the two latest news announcements: From Technical Innovation
Atlanta, GA. Technical Innovation, LLC announces the execution of a letter of intent to purchase the assets of the South Region of MCSi. Technical Innovation is led by industry veterans Mike Landrum, MCSi South president and former COO of Technical Industries of Georgia, Kevin Powers, Vice President of MCSi South and former equity partner in Spectrum Data Systems, and Sonny Davis, former President of MCSi Southeast, Technical Industries of Georgia, and past president of ICIA. Technical Innovation will operate offices in Atlanta, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, and Virginia Beach. "We expect that the transaction with MCSi will take place within thirty days. During that period, we will continue to operate as MCSi South under Chapter 11. I believe that it is important to clarify that MCSi has not filed Chapter 7 liquidation, but is conducting an orderly wind down of operations under Chapter 11, and transitioning the business to Technical Innovation in Atlanta, Nashville, and Raleigh. We expect that this transition will be virtually seamless for our customers. In approximately thirty days we will launch a well capitalized and financially strong company that will be poised to continue to provide the highest quality audio video integration solutions to the broadcast and corporate markets," states Mike Landrum managing principal of Technical Innovation. "While we will be a new entity from a legal and financial perspective, our team consists of a core group of industry veterans from the industry leaders in the southeast in the 1980's and 1990's. We are thrilled at the prospect of launching with the core talent of companies like Technical Industries, Consolidated Media Systems, and Spectrum Data Systems. This will allow us to continue to provide innovative technical solutions and exceptional customer service for design build projects in the broadcast and corporate video integration market space," according to Kevin Powers managing principal of Technical Innovation. Sonny Davis adds that, "As the industry continues to evolve, it becomes clear that every effort to consolidate the distribution channel has failed, for one reason or another. Technical Innovation will emerge from the latest consolidation effort as an even stronger entity than Technical Industries was when we merged with MCSi. In that context, we are excited that we are beautifully positioned to be the premier design build enterprise in the nation."
Avidex and MCSi Sign a Letter of Intent for Avidex to Purchase Certain Assets of the
MCSi Northern California and Washington State Region Source: Avidex On February 10, 2004 Avidex Industries, LLC dba Avidex and MCSi signed a letter of intent for the sale of certain MCSi assets located in Northern California and Washington State to Avidex. Although Avidex is a relatively new corporate name to the professional audio visual marketplace, the people of Avidex have a long and successful history of providing the highest levels of service to audio visual customers in the West. Paul Peck, President of Avidex, was formerly president and owner of Proline Industries, Inc. a well known and respected audio visual integration company which was started by Paul Peck and Cecil Gray in 1982 and sold in 1998. Paul also owns Proline Audio Visual Rentals, Inc., a successful rental and staging company located in Seattle, WA and Portland, OR. "We are pleased and excited for the opportunity to be able to work with the experienced professionals in the Northern California and Washington offices of MCSi. The most important asset of any audio visual integration company is the group of sales, technical, service and operation people associated with that company, and we feel that the group of individuals at these MCSi offices are the best in the business" said Peck. Joining the Avidex management team of Paul Peck and Joel Ballejo will be Mike Richardson and Mike Clark, former owners of Electronic Image Systems. This team will have close to 100 years combined experience in the audio visual integration business. MCSi is working closely with Avidex to provide a seamless transition for customers and employees in Northern California and Washington. Current customers of MCSi will be supported by both MCSi and Avidex in this transition period.
