Amalie Arena Gets Major LED Upgrade Amid Playoff Excitement

As the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Florida Panthers in the first round of the NHL’s Eastern Conference playoffs, fans arriving at Amalie Arena are being welcomed by a bold new visual experience.
The downtown Tampa venue, which seats 20,000 and hosts concerts and live events in addition to NHL games, recently received a major exterior LED upgrade. The project was led by owner representative and strategic advisor Sensory Interactive, with SNA Displays supplying a mix of 6 mm and 10 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior video display technology. Systems integrator AmpThink handled installation.
A New Look for the Lightning
At the heart of the upgrade is a corner-wrap LED display that measures approximately 40 feet tall by 98 feet wide and is designed for eye-catching 3D anamorphic content. Mounted above the Ashley VIP Lounge, the display features a 10 mm pixel pitch and processes more than 3.6 million pixels. It replaces static signage on the arena façade and faces both Channelside Drive and S. Morgan Street, increasing visibility and engagement.
Nearby, two 110-foot-long LED ribbons flank the stairs to the arena’s main entrance, overlooking the busy Ford’s Thunder Alley gathering space. These displays, also with a 10 mm pixel pitch, provide dynamic content to fans entering from nearby garages.
Additionally, eight double-sided LED kiosks were added around the venue’s exterior. Each vertically oriented display measures nearly 8 feet tall and features a 6 mm pixel pitch.

Built to Withstand the Storm
Installation was challenged by Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Tampa as a Category 3 storm.
“Installing several large LED displays and LED kiosks during Hurricane Milton was certainly a challenge,” said Kelvin Spencer, senior field service and installation manager for SNA Displays. “I’m proud of the work we accomplished under such conditions and the dedication of our field crews.”
The result is a high-impact, weather-hardened digital upgrade that enhances gameday and event experiences while extending branding opportunities beyond the arena walls.
