Research medical centers of Tanzania embrace TrueConf’s video conferencing solutions

trueconf-0916Ifakara Health Institute, a Tanzanian medical research institute, have successfully implemented a UC platform into their corporate enterprise network with TrueConf. TrueConf’s video conferencing solution has helped the institute to organize video conferences and meetings among four offices and cut their business travel expenses.

Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is organized into six research thematic groups – Biomedical Science; Environmental Health and Ecological Sciences; Interventions; Health Systems; Impact Evaluation; and Policy Translation & Delivery. Another focus of IHI is training medical personnel and scientific staff.

IHI offices are located in Dar es Salaam, Ifakara, Bagamoyo and in the Rufiji area, which are more than 400 km away from each other. To enable full cooperation and effective collaboration of the units, as well as to use existing equipment more efficiently, the institute needed a new convenient communication and video conferencing system. IHI specifically needed a video conferencing system capable of operating with slow Internet connection conditions and that could make use of the limited reception capacity of the institute equipment.

After successful testing, IHI engineers integrated TrueConf Server with already existing video conferencing equipment based on SIP/H.323 protocols. At the same time, institute staff were provided with client applications which enable the employees to organize multipoint video conferences on the devices they use for work every day.

By implementing TrueConf into their internal network, Ifakara Health Institute managed to optimize interactions among distant offices, as well as cut travel, training costs, and research expenditures. The staff from regions use video conferences to communicate with their colleagues from central office in Dar es Salaam and take part in video conferences and meetings. SVC (Scalable Video Coding) allows all the conference participants to get image in the quality provided by their channel of communication and equipment.

“The comparative advantage TrueConf has is the fact that it runs on our existing internal network and also over MPLS network which connects our branches. We did not want the video traffic to go over the internet as we have limited bandwidth in our institute,” says Mbarwa Kivuyo, Resource Centre Manager at the Ifakara Health Institute. “TrueConf was easy to install and the support was great during the installation stage. For a non-profit organization, TrueConf is the best choice with an attractive pricing scheme.”

TrueConf equips PCs, mobiles and meeting rooms with high quality video conferencing and collaboration solutions. TrueConf apps and solutions are easy to use and are fully compatible with legacy and SIP equipment, meaning that you save money on infrastructure while still utilizing state-of-the art technologies like scalable video coding (SVC) and intelligent stream manipulation.

More than 1500 companies and 5 million customers around the world choose TrueConf to meet their video conferencing needs. TrueConf native client apps are powered by 100% software architecture, and our products are available as both an on-premises solution and as a cloud service for end-customers and partners.
