Image Colors Matter — Choose an Inorganic LCD Projector

In a side by side comparison of color display, the Inorganic LCD Projector was far superior to a single chip DLP projector.  This is most noticeable for customers who are creating marketing materials for display use.  Just imagine spending hours on creating a new brand with a variety of colors, handpicked by you and your boss.

You then create a presentation to show off at the next big meeting in the newly remodeled conference room with, what you were told, was a “High-end, Full High Definition Projector” and… yuck!  ” These colors don’t look anything like what I created,” you mumble to the audience. You rush around the office to find a different projector.  Thankfully, someone has a portable unit brought in and wow, what a difference!  What happened?

Here is the deal.  The AV Contractor did bring in a “High-end, Full High Definition Projector” with a native 1920 X 1080, but it was a single chip DLP projector.  The portable unit is a lower resolution 1280 X 800 LCD Projector but it is using 3 inorganic LCD panels to produce its image quality.  The problem is not the resolution; it is the ability to create colors.  A single chip DLP projection system can create 16.7 million colors.  There are some DLP projectors that can produce more shades of colors, but you normally find these are not cost effective and seen primarily in movie theaters. (Side note: A DLP Cinema projection system has three chips, each with its own color wheel that is capable of producing no fewer than 35 trillion colors.)

The LCD panel’s strengths are in the three chips or panels.  They represent the primary colors in the color spectrum, unlike DLP chips that have to use a spinning wheel to reproduce color and you can only get so many colors out of the wheel.  These are the simple and primary focus of the differences here, though there are some deeper and more technical variances too, but not worth bringing up in this blog.  This is a real world example and it is the purpose of this post.

It’s very important to know the difference or you’ll fail.  Buyer beware:  Not all LCD Projectors are made equally.  Make sure the LCD Projector you purchase does say “Inorganic 3 LCD Panels.”  Single Panel, Single Chip LCD or older 3 LCD Panels won’t give you the colors or longevity you want. Be a winner and go with Inorganic LCD Projectors.  These are affordable and will make you look good every time!

9 out of 10 people prefer images from 3LCD projectors

Radius Global Market Research, a leading worldwide market research firm conducted a quantitative preference study. The preference study included side-by-side comparisons of 3LCD and 1-chip DLP projectors with similar resolution and white brightness specifications. The results show that 9 out of 10 people prefer images from 3LCD projectors, which deliver up to 3x higher Color Brightness than comparable 1-Chip DLP models. Nine out of 10 respondents preferred the image from a 3LCD projector over 1-chip DLP, and of those, 87 percent strongly preferred 3LCD images.

Understanding Brightness and Color

Current product specifications such as Brightness (or White Light Output), Contrast Ratio and Resolution give no information regarding a projector’s ability to reproduce color. There are vast differences in the color performance of projectors on the market today. 3LCD delivers up to 3x brighter colors. When selecting a projector, ask for the Color Light Output measurement.
