THE #1 AV NEWS PUBLICATION. PERIOD.

Hi I’m Catherine…

Hello!

This is my first blog entry as a member of the rAVeBlogSquad, I’m delighted to represent from the UK side of things, and was thrilled to have been asked. The minute I received an email to say I had been officially “set up”, I felt immensely excited and eager to write my first entry…

…After a manic three days at work, I am finally ready to go! (Sorry Gary)

To tell you a bit about myself; I’m 24, I live in England with my boyfriend and two cats and when I am not working, my activities including hula hooping (hence the photo!). I manage the Marketing & PR for a UK-based AV systems integration company called ‘Smartcomm’ and will be honest from start by admitting that I am new to the AV industry. I love working in Marketing and it’s always exciting moving into a different sector and learning new things. I think in ways this has been the most intimidating move for me.

Perhaps a major factor of this, is that AV is traditionally a very male-orientated industry, and it certainly seemed the case when I walked into an all-male office on my first day at the company. Having said that, I was made to feel very much at home, quickly threw myself into my work and immersed myself in all things audio visual.

It did not take me long to discover a whole world (wide web) of support for the AV population, particularly for me in the form of rAVe Publications and the‘WomeninAV’. I’m sure most of you have followed the highly inspiring group that is rAVe bloggers for a long time, and from the point of view of a ‘newbie’ it was a blessing with useful discussions and great resources from friendly AV people around the world.

I continued to trawl the web and various publications, reading and learning, and have to say it did not take long for fascination to set in; I love how quickly this industry evolves and watching transformations form through technology and their installations. A great part of my job is seeing these incredible projects take shape, and will be using this blog to share any in particular that I think people will hopefully enjoy seeing, as well as any new equipment I have had the pleasure of trying out.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog, as I am definitely going to enjoy writing it!

It would be great to get to know people, so if you would like to chat my twitter handle is ‘@Marketing__Cat’. Similarly if you would like to find out more about my company Smartcomm, my twitter and Google+ handles are both ‘SmartcommLtd’ and our website is www.smartcomm.co.uk

Hopefully speak to you soon!
