Blackmagic Studio Cameras HD and ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K Installed at NOW Church

blackmagic-logoInfoComm 2014, Las Vegas NV – June 18, 2014 – Blackmagic Design today announced that Ocala, Florida based NOW Church has installed and begun capturing services with two new Blackmagic Studio Cameras HD. NOW Church has also completed a full AV installation that includes two Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, a Blackmagic Cinema Camera (EF) and an ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K.

NOW Church is a large and growing Christian church that includes an active local congregation, as well as members throughout the world. To help spread its message and keep its community informed, NOW Church provides weekly sermons and regular events, as well as streamed Bible lessons and weekly broadcasts of sermons on the Internet and via local Florida broadcasters. To capture NOW Church’s high-energy worship, and rock concert-like presentation, they built an extensive live AV and broadcast infrastructure, with help from Florida based design and consulting firm Proton Global, based around Blackmagic Design products.

The Blackmagic cameras are used around the church for wide shots, stage zooms and tight body shots of the pastor, singers, plays and other church events, and include a moving Pocket Cinema Camera set up on a 40 foot track running over the heads of the crowd to the stage/pulpit. All cameras are fed into the ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K via HD-SDI cables, and two via wireless transmitters, with the ATEM located 120 feet away from the main stage.

The Blackmagic Studio Cameras, installed in May, operate as the two main cameras for the church, with Camera 1 using a Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 lens, shooting tight to full body from rear center of the church, and Camera 2 capturing full shots of the pulpit from the left using a Panasonic Lumix G 12-35mm f/2.8 lens.

“We saw the Studio Cameras at NAB and recognized right away that these would be perfect for NOW. Within a few weeks we had ordered the cameras and had them installed and working,” said Ricky Perinchief, owner of Proton Global.

“The images coming from the cameras are amazing, and the 10 inch monitor and focus control have been incredible. As with most churches this size, the technical staff at NOW is made up primarily of volunteers, and the huge screen along with the ability to better control the camera right from the back has helped them catch all the things that are happening in front of them. It has allowed them to capture a much more professional looking broadcast and was really easy for them to learn on. And at $1,995 per camera, I am already looking into how I can expand and use more of them. The new ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K has not only given our clients the power and flexibility they need right out of the box, but in addition provides all-important room to grow and expand their system,” said Perinchief.

“The workflow that I can build around Blackmagic products lets me give clients, such as NOW, which is my own church as well, broadcast quality productions. At the same time they let me be free to be creative and think outside the box,” concluded Perinchief.
