AV Power Up! – Episode 6: We’re Talking a WIN for the AV Industry

Power-Up-rAVe-Category2Welcome to the episode that gets right to the point — women, AV and the newly formed InfoComm council whose mission is as follows:

To provide a global community of InfoComm members and other professionals committed to supporting and empowering women who work in the technology and AV industry.

This of course is the Women of InfoComm Network (WIN), and we are extremly pleased to be bringing you this show. Join host Christa (@AVChrista) Bender, Corey (@Cbmoss) Moss, Chuck (@madsoundguy) Espinoza, Stacy (@Vaddio_Stacy) Kringlen, Hope (@BeerAndPie) Roth, Johnny (@JMOTA3) Mota and Rich (@RichardPrevete) Prevete as they welcome:

  • Erin Bolton (@erin_bolton) from MRM/McCann and Women of InfoComm Network Committee Chair
  • Jane Johnson (@Jane_Pivot) from Pivot Communications and Women of InfoComm Network Committee co-chair
  • Brad Grimes (@BGrimesDC) Director of Editorial Services at InfoComm International

(Kelly Perkins from AVI Systems who is the other co-chair of the Women of InfoComm Network was invited on but was not able to join us; we’ll have her on soon.)

On the show Erin, Jane and Brad tell us all we need to know about the Women of InfoComm Network and the great efforts being brought forth to help further empower and bring community to women who work in the audio visual industry. And listen as Jane and Erin set a major trend on this particular show, a first of its kind.

In his Converge This segment, Corey talks further with Erin and Jane about WIN as well as with Brad about an article from his InfoComm All Voices “Weekly Reading” in March on stats on women in tech. They also discuss how InfoComm International is reaching out and encouraging women as early as high school to get involved in the science and technology fields. Stacy Breaks Down the News with “it was NEVER a dress,” which talks about breaking down gender stereotypes in regards to popular culture, the project being an invitation to shift perceptions and assumptions about women, including in technology. Great perspectives from Stacy here.

Hope talks about her start in AV, being a control system programmer and how more women should look into getting into the field as well as AV itself. We also took a vote and unanimously elected Hope the ultimate math genius of the group. Chuck throws a Power Up at us about mentoring as well as continuing to learn from what you consider the best sources. Johnny tosses some random Stuff and Things into the pot and Rich reads the Hot Jobs in what’s now his segment as we decided people may really want to apply for the jobs if he reads them. And Christa – let’s just say she represents in her usual great way as the host of this show giving us her own terrific insights on the subject.

So plug in, listen intently and well, you know…

Power Up!
