1. Describe your journey in the AV industry? How did it start?

My journey in the AV industry started when I attended a meeting after my secondary school, the presenter was to use a projector to make his presentation but after connection with his laptop he could not have it display hence he resolved to use flip chart. I then felt I should have saved the situation and from there on I developed interest and started reading about AV. Later on I was hired as an ICT administrator in an AV company and voila, it was time to experience AV. This I have loved ever since and I have made it upon myself to make a difference in the AV industry.

2. What do you think is the challenges that are facing a new person who wants to join the industry.

a. The industry is so diverse and it may take time get to know / understand the different sections of AV.

b. In most cases, there is no room for practicing, practicing is actually during the actual implementation where you are expected to deliver very fine product.

c. Most AV schools / tutorial programs are found under dealer sites of which new entrants to AV may not have access to.

3. What are the positives of working in this industry

a. Technology trends favor the AV industry.

b. In AV due to its nature, the AV people usually take the day in a project since people will always be attracted with the visuals and audio as compared to others like electrical work, plumbing etc.

4. What in your opinion would you change in the industry? What are the negatives that are prevalent ?

a. I would work a lot in the design part of the project. A well designed project will always meet the expectations.

b. Like other professions I will introduce “ Industry Standards” of which have to be adhered to in project implementation as possibly licensing for practitioners. Most of the time we earn day reputation from quacks who masquerade as AV professionals.

5. Describe your ideal client? What do you wish clients to know before hiring you.

This is a client who knows/has a clear description of what they want/expect right before the project kicks off.

6. If you were going to start a project without any interference, what would you do differently ?

a. I will ensure there is proper and up to date documentation. Previous the obvious and neglected documentation have delayed implementation as things are ironed out and sometimes results to losses in terms of time, money and integrity.

b. I will make more consultations with experienced AV professionals to learn from them and get to know their approach on the challenges they face in their day in day work.

7. Describe a typical work day for you. What are your daily disciplines?

a. My day in the office starts at 7:30 am with a review of the previous day, the achievements/milestones, the pending items of the projects.

b. This is followed by discussions with the technical team members followed by the GM and MD.

c. I get an hour to read AV journals/forum/blogs/tutorials after which I head to site and together with other team members work on the target of the day.
