Both HDMI 1.3-compatible matrix switchers support HDTV 1080p/60 and PC resolutions up to 1920×1200. HDCP compliant, both series allow for simultaneous distribution of protected content to one or more HDCP-compliant displays – solving all multi-resolution switching issues with HDMI and DVI signals. Featuring what Extron calls intelligent technologies that help integrators ensure compatibility between digital devices including Key Minder, HDCP Visual Confirmation, EDID Minder, and Automatic Input Cable Equalization and Output Reclocking, they are both available in I/O sizes from 4×4 to 8×8.

Intel and AMD expect that analog display outputs such as Video Graphics Array (VGA) and the low voltage differential signaling technology (LVDS) panel interface would no longer be supported in their product lines by 2015. HDMI has increasingly been included in new PCs for easy connection to consumer electronics devices. DisplayPort is expected to become the single PC digital display output for embedded flat panels, PC monitors and projectors. DisplayPort and HDMI allow for slimmer laptop designs, and support higher resolutions with deeper color than VGA — a technology that is more than 20 years old. Additionally, as laptops get smaller and their embedded flat panel resolutions increase for more immersive experiences, the power advantages, bi-directional communications and design efficiency benefits of DisplayPort make it a superior choice over LVDS, the previous standard for LCD panel inputs. Intel plans to end support of LVDS in 2013 and VGA in 2015 in its PC client processors and chipsets. Back to Top EPSON Debuts $450 SVGA Disposable Projector Epson’s latest, dubbed the VS200, is the newest cheap 3LCD from Epson. It provides only SVGA resolution (800×600), but the company says it has a 2,300-lumen brightness spec at a price point of $429 — that’s practically disposable! The Epson VS200 includes the Instant On/Off feature, A/V Mute and Epson’s E-TORL lamp technology, which claims to last 5,000 hours in economy mode. Want more information? Extron says they launched the larger, 1024×600 resolution touchscreen surface to provide ample room for sophisticated controls and graphics in larger systems. The new touchpanels incorporate an MTP Twisted Pair receiver, which accepts either S-video or composite video input over standard CAT 5 type cable, streamlining cable management. Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows the touchpanels to receive power via the Ethernet connector, eliminating the need for a local power supply. The TLP 1000MV mounts on a wall, lectern, or other flat surface, while the TLP 1000TV sits on a tabletop or on a VESA standard mount with an optional adapter. The TLP 1000MV and TLP 1000TV work in conjunction with any Extron IP Link Control Processor, such as the Extron IPL 500 Control Processor. They are designed for use in A/V system applications that require complete, interactive control of conferencing systems, displays, switchers and source devices. The touchpanels and IP Link Control Processors communicate using a standard Ethernet network, allowing utilization of existing infrastructure. But, many universal mounts have bulky features that not every projector uses or every installer needs. Thus, Premier Mounts’ new model-specific projector mounts help minimize the time needed to install a projector by only giving you a mount specifically for your application and projector. And, according to Premier, they’re a big cost saver for projects that require installing a large number of projectors. Installation time is reduced because these mounts have mounting-hole patterns designed for specific projector models. Simply attach the mounting plate to the projector, then hook and fasten the mounting plate/projector assembly to the mount. Premier Mounts recently released model-specific Fine-Tune Projector (FTP) and PDS mounts for projectors from Sanyo (FTP/PDS-088), Mitsubishi (FTP/PDS-089), Sharp (FTP/PDS-091), NEC (FTP/PDS-092) and Christie (FTP/PDS-093).
