Premier Patents MAG Mounting System Premier Mounts announces the successful completion of patent registration for the MAG (magnetically-assisted) series of projector mounts (Patent # US 7,758,001 B2). The MAG series uses the company’s MagnaGuide mechanism and is one of its most popular product lines. The MAG, which comes in three configurations, fits most projectors weighing up to 10 lbs (4.5 kg) and is both UL and OSHPD approved.

Back to Top SMART Joins IMS Global Learning Consortium SMART Technologies announced that they’ve joined the IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC), a leading nonprofit organization for the advancement of educational technology adoption and interoperability standards to support and enhance K–12, higher education and corporate education worldwide.
As a contributing member, SMART will work with IMS GLC to advance global interoperability standards for interactive whiteboards and interactive response systems for classroom, school, district and online learning systems. As SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Response interactive response systems continue to become more widely used in K–12 and higher education classrooms, interoperability with existing systems becomes increasingly important and offers significant benefits to educators and students alike.

Interoperability standards in this area would reduce some of the barriers to wider adoption.
–GB Back to Top Extron Ships XPA 2002 Extron is shipping its XTRA Series XPA 2002 two-channel power amplifier. This compact 1U, convection-cooled amplifier offers 200 watts rms per channel into 4 ohms. XTRA Series ENERGY STAR-qualified and UL-verified amplifiers are energy efficient products that conserve energy and reduce costs. They feature an Extron-exclusive, highly-efficient, advanced Class D design with patented CDRS (Class D Ripple Suppression) technology that provides a smooth, clean audio waveform and an improvement in signal fidelity over conventional Class D amplifier designs. XTRA Series power amplifiers are housed in a compact 1U, convection cooled, full rack width enclosure and do not require fans for cooling, making them ideal for installation in racks, lecterns, credenzas, and other applications with limited space and ventilation. All the details can be found here: http://www.extron.com/company/article.aspx?id=xtraseriesad
In a field of new products (not to mention product categories), it’s cool to see new development in something as fundamental as an audio amplifier.
–GB Back to Top Back to Top Lectrosonics Guarantees Wireless Mic Muting – Pop Free Called the Mute switch and designed for use with the company’s belt-pack transmitters (although, we have an inside source that tells us it can be modified to work with any manufacturer’s wireless mic), this product is a belt-mount unit that provides instant, pop-free audio muting in a tiny package. The Mute switch is an active device that is powered by any five-pin Lectrosonics transmitter, including the new Servo Input transmitters such as the SM Series, LMa, and UM400a. It works with most two- and three-wire lavalier microphones wired according to Lectrosonics guidelines. The new Lectrosonics Mute uses an optically coupled switch to silence the audio signal without any clicks and pops, even when located in a strong RF field. The unit’s toggle switch is weather resistant and the included cable has weather resistant vinyl boots at each end. A wiring kit is included that provides a five-pin connector, strain relief parts, and an additional water resistant vinyl boot to protect the lavalier microphone connector from moisture. Complete specs are here: http://www.lectrosonics.com/accessories.html
Sounds like (that is, if the mute switch is off!) one of those belt mounted mic switches football refs wear to announce penalty calls?
–GB Back to Top Da-Lite's Fast-Fold Deluxe Line of Portable Screens Now Include 16:10 Format Sizes Da-Lite just expanded its Fast-Fold Deluxe portable screen line to include a 16:10 (e.g., 1280×800 and 1920×1200) aspect ratio screen. With DaLite’s unique folding frame and legs, a wide selection of front and rear projection screen surfaces and rugged poly case with wheels, Fast-Fold Deluxe is the worldwide standard for portable, folding projection screens. For complete specs, go to: http://www.da-lite.com/products/index.php?cID=11
Considering 16:10 seems to be arguably a better native format (match for many widescreen laptops) than 16:9, this is a good to see.
–GB Back to Top Samsung Techwin Shows $780 Document Camera Dubbed the SAMCAM 860, Samsung’s newest document camera includes 6x optical, 8x digital zoom, SXGA display output and recording of movies with audio at 30fps. Click here for more information Sharp Shows 60" Touch Screen LCD The new PN-L601B is Sharp’s answer to its (thus far) lack of success in the digital signage market in the form of a 60” touch screen LCD. An ENERGY STAR-qualified native 1080p monitor, the PN-L601B has Sharp’s UV2A photo alignment and Full Array LED backlight technologies. It uses an infrared detection system, which uses multiple infrared sensors to pinpoint the location of the user’s onscreen finger or touch pen movements to, according to Sharp, virtually eliminate the perception of misalignment. Sharp developed intuitive pen software specifically for the PN-L601B with a user-friendly interface that enables the selection of pen colors and eraser functions with a click of the touch pen button. Once images are displayed on the screen, users can draw directly on them with a touch pen or their finger to quickly make notes and reference marks. These images, with notations, can then be saved as a file on a PC or printed. The monitor has a list price of $13,195 and ships later this month. To download a PDF flyer of the PN-L601B with complete specs, go here. I have recently seen commercials on TV for a major hotel chain highlighting new and improved features and prominent in the commercial is a “patron” touching (interacting with) a large digital signage monitor.
–GB Back to Top SpinetiX Launches 1080p Media Player Still based on the same basic ultra-compact design concept that made SpinetiX a rAVe Best of DSE Award Winner, the company’s newest media player, the HMP200, uses only 7 watts of power due to its solid-state storage design. As well as decoding HD video, the HMP200 can publish data, audio, and dynamic content from RSS feeds, widgets and instant messaging using SpinetiX’s own Fusion software, which resides inside the unit and is part of the package. The creation of bespoke applications such as multi-screen videowalls, interactive kiosks and touch screens is also eased by the fact that, like all SpinetiX players, the HMP200 is based on open protocols such as SVG and JavaScript. There are comprehensive scheduling options and the unit’s standard 8GB of solid-state memory can be expanded via USB 2.0. Check out all the specs here: http://www.spinetix.com/hmp200
Lots-o-features in a small package!

Back to Top NEC Debuts Ultra Short Throw Projectors Last month, NEC Display debuted its new U Series of ultra-short-throw-lens projectors with the 3000-lumen U300X and 3100-lumen U310W. The complete elimination of shadows and glare typically found with standard projection systems is accomplished by mounting these ultra short throw projectors to the wall above the screen, aiming them at education market installs using interactive or standard whiteboards.
The 3D-ready U300X and U310W are XGA resolution (1024×768) and WXGA resolution (1366×768), DLP-based projectors using DLP Link technology from Texas Instruments and include both digital (HDMI) and analog (VGA) inputs. In addition, both projectors have 3000-hour lamps, are 3D capable, are network-enabled, have a contrast ration spec of 2000:1 and auto power on and off.
The U300X and U310W projectors will be available later this month with an estimated street price of $1,199 and $1,299, respectively and you can see all the specs here: http://www.necdisplay.com/Products/Series/?series=b0cab550-0b87-43c7-a73b-bd1b3e7722dc Back to Top |
