The best residential AV show is NOT CEDIA Expo — not even close. Not by a long shot.
The best residential AV trade show is ISE. It has more HomeAV manufacturers, it’s seen the best new product launches for at least three of the last four years and big companies like LG, Samsung, Sony and Harman have even geared product launches around ISE — opting to only “re-show” the ISE products at CEDIA rather than launch new products at Expo.
And, it’s obvious the CEDIA association — having sold the show a couple of years ago to Emerald — is putting more money into its own educational initiatives around ISE and regionally in North American and the UK rather that spending as much at CEDIA Expo.
That said, we need Expo. We need a North American-facing show so it’s not going anywhere. But, you will see companies (like some of the one’s I mentioned above) spend less money at CEDIA in 2019. But, the education is still the best thing at the show, anyway.
Enjoy this issue and note that in addition to Extron launching a Pro Series of HDMI cables (for 18Gbps capability to send 4K up to 300 feet without fiber transmitters), BenQ launched a new native 4K series of projectors and, of course, we also have a story on LG’s rollable OLED.
