InfoComm 2015 Report: Workspaces For Tomorrow Session

Change in business and culture is happening at the fastest pace ever. It is all around us, with new processes not just improving the old ones but completely replacing them. Digital downloads replaced record / CD stores, search engines replaced phone books, apps are quickly replacing the traditional taxi and hotel industries, and the way we work and collaborate is no exception.
That was the overriding theme of the Workspaces for Tomorrow session on Tuesday at InfoComm 2015. The way we work has changed. Work is not where you go but what you do. Workspaces for tomorrow need to be developed without any biases that favor an in-office employee. Remote workers, home workers, and any participants not present need the ability to participate, share content and be connected as well as anyone in a room. The offices themselves need to be designed to support multiple workstyles — not just the 1980’s style desk worker. Offices themselves are beginning to shrink — not just with desks and people getting “densified,” but with footprints reducing in favor of employees who don’t need to be there every day any more.
These changes are requiring cultural adaptation — with supervisors learning to manage using collaboration tools and social media tools — and with organizations slowly dropping the stigmas that have existed around remote working.
The panel and I (as the moderator) — representing Kramer, Pexip, Smart, AVI-SPL, Acano and Dimension Data — came to the startling realization that “making everything work together” is no longer a mountain to climb. There are significant examples of organizations that can easily support anytime, anywhere, any device collaboration. What was identified as the next big barrier is making the whole process simple. This referred both to how we deploy and then interface with the technology. It has to be as easy to use as an elevator or an iPhone. Complex control systems are a thing of the past — described to be like “the old tree that is already dead even though the trunk is still standing.” Anything that requires training sessions or leave-behind instructions just won’t fly anymore. We collaborate differently now.
It was also discussed that the chokehold that architects and AV design consultants have on the early stages of the process has to be broken. If we keep doing the same things — designing the same facilities as we have before – we will never give the champions of workspaces for tomorrow an opportunity to influence the process early enough to make a difference.

On Architectural Samples and Fighting “Scope Leak”

I seem to have acquired a spool of glowing glass.
OK, it’s an architectural sample of Corning’s Fibrance light diffusing fiber, and it landed on my desk as an architectural sample of something which intrigued one of the members of the design team on a project I’m working on. What to do with it? That speaks to the shifting role of the AV consultant in particular and of us in the AV industry in general.
The first answer — the “classic” AV answer — is that I can design a system which could interface with and control whatever light engine they devise for it. It’s obviously a purely decorative element which neither processes, transports, controls, nor displays audio or video information. From the point of view of my scope as an AV designer that’s a perfectly reasonable response: “Tell me how you’re using it, and I’ll make sure the system can control it.”
Do you see what I did there? I just showed you how we can give away scope and reinforce the perception that we are narrowly focused specialists with a bit of tunnel-vision for things outside of our specialty. Mark Coxon recently wrote about what he calls “scope leak,” or the tendency of the role of the AV team to shrink as more of what we do becomes commoditized, commercialized or both. I hope you’re in agreement that now is not the time to give away scope or to do the bare minimum. Coxon is right that parts of our role are shrinking. What we need is to find as many ways as we can to leverage our expertise to the benefit of our clients before someone else steps in and answers the questions we should be asking.
If we shouldn’t look at it as mere decoration and outside of our scope, how should we look at something like fibrance? I’d start by looking at it as an interface. Systems can communicate via status lights, touch-panel icons, messages on web pages… and glowing ribbons of glass. So I started to play with it. Wrap it around the back of a monitor to see how visible it is. Around the front of the monitor to see how distracting it is. Across a keyboard. A mouse.
If you get a sample of something, take advantage of having a sample. Explore it.
This is also a big advantage of working at a firm like SMW with other smart and engaged people; we can explore together, ask and answer questions. Some ideas came forward as we explored:
- Placing it across the back of the monitor isn’t very useful; there isn’t enough light to be visible, and there are simpler ways to create that kind of illumination.
- Wrapping the front of a monitor does produce a very visible result without being so bright as to cause eye strain. It does create a very specific aesthetic, which feels 1980s retro-future. It’s a strong look which might be jarring in some settings.
- A single strip along one edge of a device creates a far different look.
- Because it’s a line, it could be used to show interconnects between elements; light up a strand between a video display and associated speakers, for example. Alternatively, like colors could be used to identify which source is connected to which display if you have multiples of both.
- It could be used to outline technology which is otherwise invisible. One could, for example, run a ring around an inductive charging pad flush-mounted to a table.
There’s still been no decision on how, if at all, this is to be used in the project. It might be one of those clever ideas which doesn’t go anywhere or it might be a real opportunity to do something interesting and special. Even if not, it gives me another tool in my toolbox for the next project. It also brings us from the AV world to the larger conversation which takes place outside the wires. That’s a place where we’ll increasingly have to live if we want to add value, and to keep our place at the table. Leave a Comment

Audio-Technica Ships BP40 Large-Diaphragm MicrophoneAudio-Technica is now shipping its BP40 Large-Diaphragm Broadcast Microphone, a dynamic vocal microphone designed for applications including radio, overdubs, post-production, podcasting and live events. The mic’s hypercardioid polar pattern provides isolation of the desired sound source, and maximum off-axis rejection when working in close production environments. Its optimized capsule placement helps maintain a commanding vocal presence even at a distance, while the multistage windscreen provides superior internal pop filtering. It also includes a switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter to provide even more pop protection.
The BP40’s large diaphragm features patented floating-edge construction that maximizes diaphragm surface area and optimizes overall diaphragm performance, while the humbucking voice coil prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) (e.g., from video monitors, AC power, etc.). The mic’s design, inspired by the visual representation of a waveform, features rugged, all-metal construction for dependable use in professional broadcast environments. Media Vision Offers TAIDEN’s HCS-4851 Retractable Microphone Array

Bose Professional Expands FreeSpace Amplifier Line with Four New Models
Bose Professional has broadened its FreeSpace amplifier line with a set of four dual-channel amplifiers optimized for premium commercial applications such as retail, restaurants and hospitality. There are two mixer amplifiers (IZA 2120-HZ, IZA 2120-LZ) and two expansion amplifiers (ZA 2120-HZ, ZA 2120-LZ) each at 120 watts per channel. FreeSpace amplifiers can be quickly configured without a PC, enabling each installation to be customized easily and intuitively. In addition, FreeSpace amplifiers offer a range of models and features to enhance any audio installation using Bose FreeSpace loudspeakers.
The IZA models include an integrated audio DSP providing Bose loudspeaker EQ, Bose Dynamic EQ, Opti-voice paging/ducking, audio mixing/routing, bass/treble adjustments, remote control options and an auto standby feature. The ZA models support sound system expansion when using front-end Bose products such as FreeSpace integrated zone amplifiers and ControlSpace engineered sound processors.
For background/foreground music and paging applications, Bose FreeSpace integrated zone amplifiers elevate the audio experience when using FreeSpace loudspeakers. PreSonus Unveils Next-Generation DigiMax DP88 Preamp/Converter
The PreSonus DigiMax DP88 eight-channel microphone preamplifier and A/D/A converter combines eight remote-controllable mic preamps with remote control features with the new Studio 192 audio interface. The newest member of the company’s DigiMax series, the 24-bit, 96 kHz DigiMax DP88 has an audio path using by Burr-Brown A/D/A converters with 118 dB of dynamic range.
Eight digitally controlled XMAX Class A preamps use analog circuitry, with a separate digital volume control circuit. Phantom power is individually switchable for each preamp. Each channel is equipped with an eight-segment LED input meter and a phantom power indicator. In addition to offering front-panel control, the DP88’s pre-amps use simple MIDI CC messages to control level, phantom power and direct ADC input.
When connected via ADAT Optical to a PreSonus Studio 192 audio interface, the DigiMax DP88’s preamp controls also are accessible from PreSonus’ Studio One DAW and UC Surface control software for Mac OS X and Windows. No additional setup is required; the DigiMax DP88 becomes a natural extension of the Studio 192 inputs and outputs.
The DP88 provides eight channels of ADAT Optical I/O at up to 96 kHz (using dual SMUX). Mic inputs are on XLR and DB25 connectors. Eight direct, analog-to-digital, line-level inputs are available on DB25 and can be accessed per channel with a front-panel button, allowing you to keep all of your gear connected at the same time.
Eight balanced direct outputs are provided on a DB25 connector, as are eight balanced DAC outputs that expand your interface outputs for monitor mixes or speaker switching. You get MIDI I/O on a multi-pin connector and breakout cable and word clock I/O on BNC connectors. Use the DP88 as the master clock, or sync it externally via ADAT or word clock.

Biamp Systems Expands Vocia Paging System Capabilities
Biamp Systems today announced the release of Vocia 1.7 public address and evacuation system. With its decentralized architecture, Vocia is designed with no single point of system failure for reliable public address and paging applications in healthcare, corporate office, convention space and high-volume transportation environments.
Vocia 1.7 is equipped with new 2RU amplifiers, passive end-of-line monitoring devices (PLDs) supporting a wide range of speakers, as well as enhancements such as live inter-world paging, increased recorded message times of up to 30 minutes, and the flexibility to have multiple Life Safety Interface (LSI-16) devices per world.
The four-channel VA-4300CV and eight-channel VA-8150CV digital networked amplifiers provide power levels of 300 or 150 watts-per-channel respectively, delivering continuous audio power at the wattage needed. The 2RU amplifiers come equipped with comprehensive failover capabilities, including device-to-device and channel-to-channel failover.
Incorporating the newest Vocia Message Server (MS-1e), Vocia 1.7 also provides improved message playback, event scheduling, a VoIP paging interface, email reporting, logging capabilities and remote system access. The Text-to-Speech Servers (TTS-1e and TTS-1nce) are networked text-to-speech engines that support the creation of browser-based announcements. TTS-1 devices use Ethernet-based control protocols within a Vocia system to construct a variety of announcements using a set of user-defined templates.

BSS Audio Introduces BLU-DAN Dante to BLU link Bridge
BSS Audio has announced the introduction of its Soundweb London BLU-DAN Dante to BLU link Bridge, which allows one or more BLU link devices to be integrated with a Dante network.
The BLU-DAN connects a Dante device to one or more BLU link devices via standard Cat 5e cabling. It is capable of simultaneously transmitting and receiving up to 64 channels of Dante audio (64×64). Primary and secondary ports are provided to ensure fault tolerance and control is provided through a separate Ethernet port. The BLU-DAN’s BLU link connectivity is a low-latency, fault-tolerant digital audio bus with 256 channels.
The BLU-DAN is configurable using HARMAN’s HiQnet Audio Architect software. A wide selection of logic objects and a drag-and-drop user interface facilitate system setup. Its bi-directional locate functionality allows devices to be identified both from and within HiQnet Audio Architect.

Martin Audio Unveils CDD
Martin Audio introduced a major new dedicated installation loudspeaker range called the CDD Series at InfoComm. Combining curved enclosures with Coaxial Differential Dispersion technology, the series is designed for installs. CDD has six two-way full-range coaxial systems — from the micro CDD5 to the larger CDD15, plus high-performance subwoofers, covering the majority of install applications. All models come in black or white as standard, and all RAL color variants are available as special order.
Martin Audio says its Coaxial Differential Dispersion technology delivers “more consistent audience coverage than systems with fixed dispersion X° x Y° horns,” projecting more output to the rear of the audience to distribute sound evenly from front-to-back, while having wide horizontal coverage close-up. This increased coverage area can reduce the speaker count in larger installations.
The CDD Series has also been designed to be visually appealing. Molded in rigid UPM Formi — a natural fiber composite which combines stiffness with excellent internal damping properties — the curved shape allows each enclosure to be discreetly mounted close to a wall or ceiling. They can also be used in either horizontal or vertical orientation, with rotation of the coaxial driver easily accomplished by removing the screw free, protective grille.

InFocus Adds Five New Projectors Aimed at ED market
InFocus Corporation today announced its newest classroom-optimized projectors – the IN110x series. InFocus designed the five new projectors, which each feature 3200-lumen brightness and 15,000:1 contrast ratio, to fit school budgets and the ambient-light levels of most classrooms. Each model has a majority of the same connectivity options, but differ in native resolution, aspect ratio, throw ratio and zoom ratio in order to fit classrooms’ differing screen shapes and throw distances.
The new IN110x-series projector line includes the IN112x, IN114x, IN116x, IN118HDxc and the IN119HDx, each with a list price of less than $550.
The IN119HDx and IN118HDxc offer full native 1080p high-definition resolution, the IN116x offers widescreen WXGA, the IN114x offers standard XGA, and the IN112x offers SVGA resolution. Each projector produces an image up to 299 inches (nearly 25-feet diagonal), is 3D ready and offers VGA and HDMI inputs.

BenQ Adds Two New M6 Projector Models for Small Corporate Solutions
BenQ America has added two new models to its M6 Series of projectors. The MX631ST and MW632ST short-throw projectors are specified at 3,200 lumens of brightness with 13,000:1 contrast ratio. Standard features include SmartEco power-saving technology, auto keystone setup tools, expanded connectivity options and the ability to fill up to a 100-inch screen at a mere six feet away.
Other features include:
- Dual HDMI slots
- MHL technology allows content streaming of compatible mobile devices directly to the projector
- Integrated 10-watt speaker
- 1.2x zoom and auto keystone capabilities
- XGA (MX631ST) or WXGA resolution (MW632ST)
BenQ’s SmartEco technology reduces the the total cost of ownership of the M6 Series with a lamp life of up to 10,000 hours and no filters to clean or replace. By setting projectors to “Smart Eco” mode, the units automatically adjust lamp power by up to 70 percent in order to use just the right amount of brightness. To further reduce power consumption, an “Eco Blank” mode allows users to blank out the screen whenever projection isn’t required, while a “No Source Detected” mode automatically lowers brightness to 30 percent when no display has been detected for more than three minutes. After 20 minutes of inactivity, the projectors automatically shut down to save power. For total energy efficiency, a “Standby” mode allows the projectors to lower power usage to less than 0.5W during periods of inactivity.

EIKI International Intros 8,000 ANSI Lumen Projector With Built-In Edge Blending and Image Warping
Eiki International has introduced the new EIP-UHS100 single chip DLP projector, with a specified 8,000 ANSI lumen brightness and a 2400:1 contrast ratio. Featuring a native WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution, the new EIP-UHS100 supports analog and digital video inputs, including 3G HD-SDI and HDMI, in all color standards up to 1080p.
The new EIP-UHS100 projector has built-in edge blending for combining multiple projected images into a single seamless image and image warping, which facilitates digital image manipulation for either corrective or creative purposes. Additionally, the projector incorporates a lens memory feature with as many as ten saved settings. This makes the EIP-UHS100 ideal for venues where, for example, there are movable walls — enabling the focal settings to be memorized in advance for each projected distance.

Hitachi Adds CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 LCD Projectors Featuring HDBaseT
Hitachi America today introduced its CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 LCD projectors, two new models that offer HDBaseT capability along with improved contrast, WUXGA resolution and numerous additional enhancements. The CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 are aimed at mid- and large-sized auditoriums and venues.
The CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 are able to receive video signals from distances of more than 300 feet via HDBaseT. In addition, both projectors include a complete selection of A/V inputs including HDMI, component, S-Video and composite video, USB Type A and Type B, computer and audio. LAN, RS-232C control, remote control and monitor out connections are also provided.
The CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 are both WUXGA 1920×1200 resolution and 5000:1 contrast ratio as well as 6,000 and 5,000 lumens brightness, respectively. They feature exclusive Hitachi image technologies such as HDCR High Dynamic Contrast Range to yield clear images even in bright rooms, and Accentualizer, which enhances sharpness, shadow detail and other image qualities. Both models offer a DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) Simulation Mode, which is ideal for viewing grayscale medical images, such as X-rays, for training and educational purposes.
The CP-WU8461 and CP-WU8451 provide motorized focus, zoom and lens shift, allowing adjustment of the image via the supplied remote control. Digital keystone (horizontal and vertical) correction, Hitachi’s exclusive Perfect Fit image correction and 360-degree display rotation enable precise positioning of the image and facilitate installation. In addition to their supplied 2.0x zoom lens, four optional additional lenses are available to accommodate a wide variety of projection distances.

Pakedge’s BakPak 3.0 Now Shipping
Pakedge has introduced the third generation of its BakPak Cloud Management System, which is now available industry-wide after its limited release last month at InfoComm 2015. It is also now shipping with the NP36 network patroller.
The cloud based remote management solution gives integrators end-to-end control from a distance with in-depth monitoring of network devices and control systems. BakPak does this with prioritized alerts, robust permission settings, automated network repair and mapping, easy configuration management, report logging, backup and restore functionality, and TriPlex – a unique troubleshooting system that determines the cause of the problem in case of a network outage or configuration error and suggests potential fixes.
Should BakPak’s built in self-healing features not be able to resolve a network failure, integrators can count on the intuitive alert system.
Pakedge says that unlike other remote management system, BakPak 3.0 does not send misleading alerts – it is intelligent enough to pinpoint which device failure caused the network to crash instead of inundating integrators with a string of “device failure” notifications that don’t help. It does this by validating all error alerts through situational-aware AI algorithms to provide accurate usable information to take action on. These useful alerts are sent via e-mail, SMS, or the BakPak app so the integrator can respond as necessary.
Power scheduling, power cycling and power control on POE switches and PDUs can be managed as groups as well. Even system backups can be grouped – instead of backing up configurations on devices individually, you can backup all the configurations for all the devices across the network at the same time with the click of a button. The configurations are then stored on the cloud for easy device replacement in case of failure. No additional setup or configuration required – simply swap out the affected unit and restore configurations from the cloud.
BakPak’s intelligence is not restricted solely to Pakedge devices. Intelligent device management and third party device integration is a core part of BakPak’s service offering — with greater support for more third party devices being added often. At launch, BakPak 3.0 offers full compatibility and support for Control4, Crestron, Middle Atlantic and Panamax devices. Even for third party devices not natively supported within BakPak’s own interface, users can use BakPak to access the built-in GUI of any third party device on the network, allowing configuration and management from anywhere in the world.
The Pakedge BakPak was designed to save technology integrators time and money by eliminating tedious processes. Automatic device discovery and auto-mapping minimizes setup time and simplifies troubleshooting in case of network problems. Group firmware updates and power control makes maintenance a breeze. Prioritized alerts, automatic self-healing, Triplex automated troubleshooting, and cloud managed backup and recovery help integrators bring peace of mind to their clients.
Pakedge developed BakPak and offers it in three service tiers – Basic, Advanced, and Premier. The company hopes integrators will use as an example for developing managed services as a part of their businesses.

Premier Ships Symmetry Mounts
Premier is now shipping the new Symmetry Series — designed as a simple mounting solution that is supposed to decrease installation time by more than 40 percent but still allows for precise alignment features to ensure perfect display bezel alignment. Designed for installation efficiency, the Symmetry Series offers the most optimum bundled solutions for scalability and is perfect for single or multi-site deployments of all the Premier solutions.
Symmetry is comprised of a two-component system: an interface bar and display brackets with easily accessible 6-point (x,y,z) adjustment points on the top of each display bracket. The L-brackets used to anchor the interface bar to the wall can be moved anywhere along the bar to match the stud location in the wall, allowing it to be installed in a fraction of the time that it takes to install traditional individual display mounting solutions. This one system can be configured to fit a wide variety of digital signage needs, including video walls, digital menuboards and transportation.

Da-Lite Unveils New Product for Large Venue Installs
When designing large venues, ballrooms or architecturally appealing rooms, a consultant, integrator or architect may feel conflicted when installing a traditional screen in a room with high ceilings that will require a lot of black drop to accommodate the AV needs and an appropriate screen viewing height. The Wireline Advantage from Da-Lite is the aesthetic solution to this design challenge.
The Wireline Advantage is a projection screen for large venues that uses thin steel cables instead of black drop to lower the viewing area to an appropriate height for the audience. FreeAxez Unveils New Gridd and Gridd Power Systems
FreeAxez has announced the latest versions of Gridd and Gridd Power. Gridd is a UL-listed, modular, all-steel, adaptive cabling distribution system that safely distributes cables throughout a building directly beneath the finished floor, providing easy access to a facility’s cables and wiring. Gridd Power is a 50 amp electrical bus track system that allows devices and furniture to easily connect to electricity in the Gridd system.
According to FreeAxez, Gridd is a safer and more flexible solution, negating the need to access wiring in awkward or inaccessible spaces. It significantly reduces the time, hassle and costs associated with traditional wiring methods. Installation takes less than half the time of a post and panel raised floor, leading to significant savings in labor costs. The Gridd system can be repositioned, redeployed, reused or recycled in its original state, in any building. FreeAxez offers clients hands on support throughout every phase of the project, including lifetime support of every building that its Gridd system is employed.
Gridd is 100 percent made in the USA with locally harvested raw material and US manufactured steel. Peerless-AV Introduces New Video Wall Installation AppPeerless-AV has just launched something they are calling the Peerless-AV Video Wall Mount Locator app. The new mobile app is designed to support Peerless-AV’s line of SmartMount Full-Service Video Wall Mounts (DS-VW755S, DS-VW765-LAND, DS-VW765-LQR, DS-VW765-POR and DS-VW765-PQR).
Designed for any installation utilizing the SmartMount Full-Service Video Wall Mounts, including applications such as shopping centers, retail stores, transportation centers, and corporate settings, the Peerless-AV claims the Video Wall Mount Locator app minimizes the needs for large construction crews and decreases installation costs.
With the addition of the Peerless-AV Video Wall Mount Locator app, integrators are able to easily determine the best location to place display mounts to create a seamless video wall. To get started, the user manually inputs the display orientation, the dimensions of the display, and the distance from the floor and wall, and the app calculates the ideal location to begin installation.
To ease installation, Peerless-AV’s line of SmartMount Full-Service Video Wall Mounts have been upgraded to feature a top center keyhole slot to help plot out and hang the video wall mounts.

Neutrik Intros Cat5e etherCON Right-Angle Feedthrough ConnectorsNeutrik has announced its right-angle etherCON Cat 5e feedthrough connectors. A new alternative to Neutrik’s existing NE8FDP feedthrough connectors, which are terminated via an RJ45 connector plugged in straight from the rear, the new NE8FDP-R right-angle feedthrough connectors accept an RJ45 connector at the bottom rear. This right-angle orientation can be a space saver in cases where space behind the connector is limited. Neutrik’s new right-angle feedthrough connectors are available with either a nickel flange (part number NE8FDP-R) or a black flange (part number NE8FDP-R-B).
Like NE8FDP, the new Neutrik etherCON right-angle feedthrough connectors feature a rugged D-size flange and, at the front side, the option to connect either a standard RJ45 connector or else Neutrik’s rugged etherCON cable carrier. Neutrik etherCON is ideal for pro audio, video, and lighting network applications where locking, durability, and ruggedness are beneficial. The new etherCON right-angle feedthrough connectors are Cat5e compliant according to the TIA / EIA 568B and ISO / IEC 11801 standards.

Extron Launches New Quantum Connect with HDMIExtron’s Quantum Connect videowall processor is now offered in two HDMI configurations with new, lower pricing. The Quantum Connect 82 and Quantum Connect 84 feature eight HDMI inputs and two or four HDMI outputs. Extron says they are integrated with the same video scaling, windowing capability, and performance as Extron’s flagship Quantum Elite processors. Quantum Connect is designed for videowalls with two to four displays, delivering video processing with flexible windowing capabilities.
The Quantum Connect 82 and Quantum Connect 84 maintain optimal full frame rate performance with a high-speed, 10 Gbps RAPT – Real-Time Asymmetric Packetized Transfer video/graphic bus that allows all inputs to be processed simultaneously, while preserving real-time control response and image performance.
A variety of display scenarios can be pre-programmed or created on-the-fly using Quantum Connect Control Software, an intuitive control interface for setup and system operation. Restriction-free windowing allows complete flexibility when designing window layouts. All of this is complemented by high performance image scaling technology, which accurately preserves the original image quality at all window sizes.

Atlona Ships 4K Matrix Switchers Atlona is now shipping its T-UHD-PRO3-88M 8×8 matrix and the 6×6 AT-UHD-PRO3-66M. Both are, according to Atlona, HDMI to HDBaseT matrix switchers capable of switching 4K video @ 60 Hz with HDCP 2.2 copy protection. The specs for both say the switchers can handle chroma subsampling at 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 as well as 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit color depth.
The models provide:
- HDBaseT outputs for cable runs of both 230 feet (70 meters) and 328 feet (100 meters)
- 48V Power over Ethernet
- two HDMI outputs which are independently selectable as mirrored or matrix outputs
- analog audio de-embedding on multiple sources
- EDID communications support
- a web-based GUI for matrix configuration
- front panel control
And, both also offer capability for bidirectional remote control via IP, IR and RS232.
Both matrixes are designed to handle de-embedding of audio streams with support for signals up to 192 kHz/24-bit plus independent control for volume, mute, and 5-band EQ for all de-embedded audio content. Connection to analog audio outputs (unbalanced) are made with captive-screw connectors. And in future software upgrades will be available via a network-connected IP (RJ45) or USB connection.

Crestron Ships Three 4K SwitchersCrestron is shipping three new 4K/60 HDMI switchers that they say are aimed for use in meeting rooms and classrooms. Labeled in their own release for “budget sensitive projects,” the HD-MD4x1-4K-E, HD-MD4x2-4K-E, and HD-MD6x2-4K-E each are spec’d for signals up to 4K/60 and include their DigitalMedia EDID management, native Crestron control via Ethernet, and a built-in Web server for configuration.
Each switcher is basically identical except for the number of inputs and outputs. The 4×1 4K HDMI source switcher (HD-MD4X1-4K-E) includes four HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. The 4×2 4K HDMI matrix switcher (HD-MD4X2-4K-E) provides four HDMI inputs and two independent HDMI outputs, and the 6×2 4K HDMI Switcher (HD-MD6X2-4K-E) has six HDMI inputs and two independent HDMI outputs. All three models are specified to switch HD at 1080p, Ultra HD, 2K and 4K and provide support for HDCP, 3D, Deep Color and 7.1 audio.
All three switchers feature thumbpad control and an OLED display for control and source selection and setup is done using the front panel OLED display or a Web browser. Crestron says that no programming, tools or PC is required for installation.
The one-inch deep HD-MD4X1-4K-E and HD-MD4X2-4K-E are designed to be mounted to a wall or other surface in the room or they can fit behind a flat panel display or under a table. They can also be placed on a rack shelf, or attached to a single rack rail. The HD-MD6X2-4K-E is housed in a compact 1 RU rack mount chassis.

Kramer Unveils New 12-Input ProScale Digital Scaler/Switcher at InfoCommKramer introduced its newest ProScale Presentation Digital Scaler/Switcher at InfoComm 2015. Dubbed the Kramer VP-444, it features 12 inputs (with fade-thru-black switching), 10 HDMI inputs and two analog inputs. The VP-444 offers unbalanced stereo inputs for each video input and embedded audio for its HDMI inputs. Level control is available for the outputs as well as for each individual input. It scales the video, embeds the audio, and outputs the signal to two HDMI outputs (up to 1080p). The product includes 22 output resolutions.
Integrated with two microphone inputs for mixing, switching or talkover, the VP-444 also has two audio outputs with balanced stereo audio on a terminal block connector and S/PDIF on an RCA connector. The unit features last-connected auto input switching, offering users plug-and-display functionality.
The VP-444 features control via RS-232 and IR remote with on-screen display (OSD) and easy-to-use, built-in web pages via Ethernet. The unit also features powerful audio DSP functions for digital audio signal processing, including audio equalization, mixing, delay, etc.

Extron Ships 3G-SDI Wallplate Transmitters for DTP SystemsExtron has started shipping their DTP T 3G-SDI 230 D and DTP T 3G-SDI 330 D, single-gang Decora-style transmitters for sending 3G-SDI, HD-SDI or SDI, audio, and bidirectional RS-232 and IR signals over a shielded CATx cable to Extron DTP-enabled products. The DTP T 3G-SDI 230 D extends signals up to 230 feet (70 meters), while the DTP T 3G-SDI 330 D extends signals up to 330 feet (100 meters). Both DTP T 3G-SDI D models feature built-in signal conversion for full compatibility with all DTP 230 and DTP 330 Series receivers, and DTP-enabled products. They provide seamless integration of broadcast-type video signals into DTP Systems, supporting video rates up to 2.97 Gbps. The transmitters accept analog stereo audio signals for simultaneous transmission over the same shielded twisted pair cable.
The DTP T 3G-SDI 230 D and DTP T 3G-SDI 330 D offer several features that are designed to simplify AV system integration, including input equalization and reclocking on the SDI input loop-through. Input equalization conditions incoming 3G-SDI signals to compensate for signal loss over long input cables, while reclocking removes data timing jitter. For increased system design flexibility, the transmitters can transmit a selected pair of AES audio channels as embedded digital audio, or send analog stereo audio alongside the video and control signals. To streamline installation, the transmitters can be remotely powered by Extron DTP-enabled products over the twisted pair cable. They also offer an HDBaseT output mode that is compatible with any HDBaseT-enabled display. The DTP T 3G-SDI 230 D and DTP T 3G-SDI 330 D mount in an included Decora-style wallplate designed for installation in one-gang US wall boxes.

Crestron Ships New DigitalMedia 4K Multimedia Presentation Switchers Crestron is now shipping three new 4K specified presentation switchers in the form of the HD-MD8X1-4K (an eight-input 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher via HDMI), the DM-MD8X1-4K-C (a 4K Scaling Presentation Switcher with HDBaseT output plus a mic input) and the DMPS3-4K-150-C (a 3-Series 4K Presentation System. All of them can scale any incoming resolution to 4096×2160.
Crestron says the DMPS3-4K-150-C is specifically designed for classrooms, small and medium conference rooms, and huddle spaces. It includes an integrated Crestron 3-Series Control System and two DM inputs for a 10×1 4K switching solution and can be used with either their .AV Framework or SIMPL Windows for custom programming.
Actually, all three presentation switchers are built on the new Crestron .AV Framework technology, so Crestron claims they are ready to go right out of the box. Setup can be done right from an iPad, laptop or touch screen, without custom programming. Crestron even promotes that you can walk into the room, connect your cables, specify sources and displays and the system is up and running.

VDO360 Debuts Wireless BYOD Centered Around VTC SystemThe Clearwater PTZPC is a completely new way to do BYOD collaboration. By uniting a VDO360 Compass camera with an Intel 5th generation i5 PC, VDO360 says they have has solved one of the most vexing issues facing communications space design: Where and how to run the cabling.
The Clearwater PTZPC turns the camera and computer into one single unit—no more worrying about USB cables. It’s smaller than most USB PTZ cameras but includes a wireless BYOD system, a VTC camera, VDO360’s new Bluetooth speakerphone, “The Crystal,” a Flare IR preset recall buttons, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the IR remote for camera control.
