Our top story for this month is what we know about the new Sharp 8K display — it’s finally shipping. The truth is, as you know, the rental and staging companies are the pioneers of every new technology that comes along. No one’s installing 8K yet, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use 8K with your clients way before anyone else does. And, considering it’s a 70″ model, it may be worth investing in one. Oh, and in case you didn’t know, the upcoming 2020 Japan Olympics will be live broadcasted in 8K, thanks to an agreement between Sony, Panasonic and broadcast station NHK.
We just returned from CEDIA and although it’s 99 percent residential, it’s still a geek-fest of awesomeness when it comes to AV toys. We covered as much of the show as we could and it included a lot of 4K, some 8K and a bunch of new tech toys that we all would like in our own homes. If you’re bored ago work today — or tired watching 24-hour Hurricane Florence coverage on TV — head on over to rAVePubs.com/cedia2018 and watch some of the over 350 videos we shot LIVE on the show floor and dream!
Finally, don’t forget to check out the new Extron 300-feet HDMI cables advertised below from Extron — they can handle true 4K 4:4:4 so they are the only 4K campus you’ll ever need for inventory. And, later in this issue you’ll see that NEC’s staking a new claim in the LED world with new indoor and outdoor displays. Enjoy and stay dry for those of you on the east coast like us!
